Is there an altitude above which you don't find mosquitoes ?.

Its the carbon dioxide that attracts them, so I suppose if you are not sweating they can't find you. The the higher you get the colder it gets and you don't sweat. They are most active at dawn & dusk.

Well thats my theory anyway!

Having spent some time in the villages leading up to the troodos mountains and been bitten to death by them I would say in Cyprus no --- but I have noticed that they are bigger and more nasty than the town ones

Never had much of a problem with mossies in my 3rd floor apartment in Larnaca. -- 4 floors high if you count the ground floor parking under the flats .

But this year I've been bitten a few times and so has my partner which is strange considering the last winter was pretty dry.

The folks in the 1st floor apartments have always complained about the mossies whilst we hardly see them on the top floor.

I'm sure this year they have used the stairs or found out how to use the lift

Another problem we don't suffer from is flys ---- as yet they don't seem to have worked out how the lift works and we seem to be with out that common irritation :D

i am not an expert but do we release CO2 when we sweat ? !!! allow me to have my doubts...
in any case, we release CO2 when we breathe!

i have a feeling that there is something wrong with this theory

When my family and I went to Cyprus in hotels on the beach we never got bite. Then we bought a holiday villa slightly up from the coast and got bite really bad - so every time we go we spray the rooms and also ourselves. It seems that there are these tiny little black things, smaller than a flea that come out at dawn and dusk. We were told that if you go up above the humidity line you don't get them???? Les

It depends on the area. Some areas have more and some very few. You can always use one of those devices that kills them ;)

Useless bit of trivia thrown in here...

watched an animal planet programme about mosquitoes a while back where the mosquitoes had just hatched next in a pool of water out on the plains. buffalo (or similar) were grazing next to the pool and the tv crew watched as the animal slowly died from mosquito bites. it wasn't sucked dry or anything it was just that millions of these insects had hatched and caused a drop in the amount of blood in the animal and it died from blood loss......unbelievable!!!
