Some Cypriots are not animal lovers like we Brits I'm afraid and lace meat with Lanate, a horrible poison. Its not an ever day occurence, but it does happen.
Don't want to put you off, but just be careful with your animals.

Hi
It's not just remote villages unfortunately that poisoning happens. Three of my cats have recently been poisoned in the middle of Limassol, near the beach - just off the tourist area.

We have bought agricultrual land approx 3.5 acres and having our own house built in the Arodes region of Pafos, in order that we have our own land around us and we are safe -??? I hope.

Les just be on the watch out for meat laying around. If your home is on 3.5 acres, then I would think you are a bit safer than people who live right next to others. I would think some people poison animals because they bother them, but yours on such big piece of land, shouldn't have the opportunity to bother anyone. Either way just be careful.

I think we'll move without the cats first and check things about. I've heard one too many stories about poisoning.

Don't know quite how I'll tell my children though. Really sad situation.

Even my friends in a remote area who thought there was no problem lost thier cat within 2 months.

Well I guess like andri said you just got to be real careful. We have had a holiday home in Peyia for 5 years now and have adopted some feral cats, got them spayed and neutered, wormed etc., amd have some-one feed them whilst we are not there. We've never lost any due to poisoning but have had several run over.
