Hunting accident

Postby reportfromcyprus » Mon Oct 02, 2006 9:04 am

I think people should be forced to take safety courses before they're given a hunting license. It's terrible that there are stories about hunting accidents - a 14-year-old boy was shot in the arm by his own father yesterday.

He was walking around with a loaded shotgun! Surely it's just common sense not to load the gun if you're walking.

Every time I write these stories I feel that they could have been prevented. I mean, they happen every year.

The ironic thing is seeing a brochure for hunting insurance in a bank one day.

I suppose that if there's no vaccine for stupidity, at least the insurance companies can make money off them.

Still, I think these things can be prevented with a bit of education - a good programme with hunting experts explaining best practices.

I totally agree with this and the dogs suffer too, as when the season is finished, some dog owners just let them loose to fend for themselves and they end up getting run over on the motorways.
How can anyone be so cruel??

They hunt rabbits, hares, pheasants & grouse, all these small animals. I don't agree with it because there's no real need for hunting, like for purposes of culling a large population of deer, like in the US.

That's such a strange attitude to gun safety :( and children end up suffering for it.
