I stand corrected my friend as i said I dont take any offence just thought i'd make the comment while the subject was about name changing :)

I understood your initial message, I just wanted to write that clarification as it was relevant to my next post.

Kipros Kibris and Cyprus is the SAME name man adjusted to suit 3 different languages man. It is NOT a translation, it is NOT a different name. You should read my message more carefully.
Now tell me is Davlos and Kaplica the same name?

The name of the village was offensive. Gaidouras means "the village of donkies". Imagine someone coming from that village, and someone asks him "where are you from? "
-From the village of the donkies!!

But hey, there are worse cases than that. Another village in Karpas is called Galinoporni. ="Blue eyes whore"

NB. I have a map in front of me, printed just recently the name of the village is still printed Gaidouras, so I am not sure if what Bananiot said is the whole truth. Perhaps there was an intention to change it before 1974, but that never happened, I don’t know.

Apparently Dhavlos translates to A place covered in Forest

or Half burnt Firewood.

Camlica is a pinewood = There are two in Istanbul alone: Buyuk Camlica and Kucuk Camlica
Now …………. can you spot any similarity at all between
Camlica and Kaplica, both refering to places of natural beauty.

Of course they could have translated half burned firewood into turkish. Maybe some of our turkish friends can tell us what Half Burned Firewood might be in Turkish if you prefer man.

Where does it say that every place must have a literal translation only? Maybe a literal translation would be highly confusing or offensive.

Hi, I could be wrong, but don't they have three different languages, Greek, Turkish and English.....Kibris, Kypros and Cyprus, on the Cypriot paper money, post stamps, etc....?

Peace! :)
