Cities and some villages had both Greek and Turkish names. I believe Paphos is Baf in Turkish if I am not mistaken.

Then most other villages had either Greek or Turkish names (more with Greek names, since GCs are 5 times more). In free areas we didn't rename the villages that had Turkish names. However in the occupied areas the Turkish regime in an effort to erase the 3500 years of Greek history on the island has renamed ALL villages to Turkish.

ARTICLE 3
1. The official languages of the Republic are Greek and Turkish.

So offically and legally every towm can have a Greek and Turkish name.
Have you guys actually read your own constitution or are you still making one up as you go along?

Rolo,
LLOL dont you know they make it up as they go along. What suits them is fine -what they dont like they ignore. Not only in stupid things like this but in more substantial matters as well.

Actually, we have done something worse than the Turkish Cypriots have done. We have changed the Greek name of a village to another Greek name, erasing the 3500 years of Greek history on the island. The village, in the Famagusta district was called "Gaidouras" and we changed it to "Nea Sparti". Does anyone know the Turkish name of this village?

I remember visiting Dhavlos several times when i had family in Karpas so I was interested in this story about the Greek Cypriot. I too am sad for this guy who doesn't have the luxury of waiting for ever for politicians to show leadership. I would be surprised if he were the only one to take this step. I am aware that there is a small number of Turkish Cypriots who have the deciison to return to the south although the reasons they give might not be the same.

What is the reason for this name changing in the south that Bananiot abi refers to?

Up until a few years ago all the road signs were in English names and Greek names By that I mean Nicosia Famagusta Paphos etc. Now the names are in English lettering but are literal translations of the Greek name ie Lefkosia Pafos Ammaxostos etc

Not complaining just an observation

What are you talking about man? Place names, town names and village names are not changeable nor translatable. In fact there is a worldwide UN registry for them using LATIN characters. The only thing allowed is minor adjustments to suit the spelling in different languages but the OFFICIAL name registered under the UN still remains the official name, no matter what. Translations or complete name changing ARE NOT ALLOWED.

In the free areas we still keep the names of TC villages intact as well as Turkish names of streets. Here are some examples of streets in Paphos: Mehmet Emin Str, Osman Efendi, Ataturk Kemal, Midhat Pasha….
According to your fallacious logic we should call the Ataturk street "dromo tou patera ton tourkon (street of the father of Turks) , or better give it another name as you use to do in the occupied like Grivas Street. Or the other street "Dromo tou kiriou Osmani" Or better a different name like Marikkou Street. Ridiculous!

"Rolo" for example means toliet paper in Greek, if this is a Turkish name then according to your logic we should use its Greek meaning and call you toilet paper from now on. : lol: : lol: : lol: : lol: : lol:

Kaplica is not even a translation of Dhavlos it’s a different name alltogether.
There has been a systematic effort in the occupied to wipe off everything Greek, and name changing of villages, towns, and streets was part of it.
