That's a good question, to which I have absolutely no answer :P

I don't know. Is this the British way of calling immigrants? Are immigrants to the UK called expats? What is the difference between the two?

No, immigrants to the UK are called immigrants. It's people from the UK who specifically call themselves expatriates (when they live in other countries).

i think its because we had an empire at one time, and its still a mark of respect for the power and influence that we have had in the world. if you ask someone where and what is england, you will get an answer, ask where cyprus is and many people go.. dunno.. you may not like it but i think England has had a great deal of influence on the world, as a forward thinking race, and a leader of ideas and artistic influence. Now you can shout me down.. as if i care...

The how much respect you have around the world can be seen by how others think of you and not by how you call yourselves. If indeed you call yourselves in that way just to sound "better" than the rest then this just shows snobbery

Its not only the British that call themselves expats, its everyone else too. You make me hysterical you are so obviously envious sotos of how much esteem we get, and how low your esteem is...
