Ajet banned from landing in fog
By Elias Hazou

AJET – formerly Helios Airways – has been barred from landing in fog, after authorities deemed the airline could not guarantee safety in such conditions.
This was confirmed yesterday by Civil Aviation director Leonidas Leonidou, who said the airline’s licence to land in low-visibility conditions – known as Cat II & III – had been revoked as of last week.

The story was broken by daily Phileleftheros, which said that the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) had arrived at the same conclusion during an inspection last May.
According to the paper, the airline lacked the adequate equipment, pilot training and experience to prove it could operate its jets in fog.

Phileleftheros said that next week officials would be traveling to Brussels to talk the European Commission out of placing Cyprus’ Civil Aviation on a blacklist.
The revelation came hot on the heels that Civil Aviation did not brief the local Air transport Accident and Investigations Branch (AIB) that a crack formed in the cockpit window of a plane run by ajet – formerly Helios airlines – on May 21, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport.

Meanwhile Haravghi reported yesterday that the Greek team of experts investigating last August’s crash had concluded pilot error was the primary cause of the accident. The team, headed by Akrivos Tsolakis, zeroed in on the aviators’ failure to carry out a checklist during flight or take the proper action when the decompression sounded.
Secondary causes included Civil Aviation’s long-term deficiencies, dating back to at least 1996.
Tsolakis’ finished report is expected sometime in the next few weeks.

Never take this airline for security reasons. Libra the company that owns a-jet -former Helios Airways- is making huge losses after the Helios Crash last summer.

It seems that this company is irresponsible and will never get back the credibility lost after the airline carsh last summer! The authorities need to ban this airline from operations due to negligence that has resulted in to the death of more than a hundred people.

Given all the shit that Ajet/helios/Libra or what ever you want to call it, is producing, why in gods name are they still allowed to fly ??

Surely, there must be some rule that the government can activate to ban these bastards. Think of all those poor people that died not to mention the hundreds that put themselves at risk each time the board an ajet flight.

What i would really like to know is, why the hell the cabin staff are still flying. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole even if it left me unemployed.

May god have mercy on all those that fly with this firm/airline.

I wouldn't fly with these people either.

I once saw a girl breakdown in tears at check-in when she found out who she was flying with. The people with her managed to persuade her, but when she got to the boarding gate, she chickened out and who can blame her.

Remember the old adage, "You only get what you pay for!!"

The aircraft crashed after colliding with an Inex Adria DC-9-31 (see previous record) over the Zagreb VOR. ATC was found liable for the accident and one controller was sentenced to seven years in prison.
10 September 1976
British Airways

Lufthansa has 2 crash reports
KLM 1 crash report
Air Canada 6 crash reports
emirates crash

shall i go on??

Just cause a plane crashes does that mean you will never ever ever fly with them again?? if so you're living in a dream world and are far too crazy to be in the air to begin with...

Helios Airways was a newly established company , established by people who had no prior knowledge on the airline industry as the subsequent events have shown. Libra the mother company of the group -that Helios belonged to- had acquired millions on the Cy Stock excahnge on the period 2000 - 2001 and the Board of Directors took the decision to form the Helios Airline (a Jet). The company lack knowledge and know how to run such an airline:

According to the paper, the airline lacked the adequate equipment, pilot training and experience to prove it could operate its jets in fog.

Meanwhile Haravghi reported yesterday that the Greek team of experts investigating last August’s crash had concluded pilot error was the primary cause of the accident.

No control Systems were in place and no measures were taken to safequard the passengers in case of an emergency. The tragedy could have been avoided If the airline had a basic control system in place!

But some other airlines have 10s and 100s of airplanes and operate for many decades. One accident for them is like 0.000001% of their flights. Helios had just 2 planes and was operating only for a few years!!
