varosha and famagusta

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:24 am

To put it in a nutshell, forced marriages do not work specially after violence in the family.

Are you talking about the Turks that came to Cyprus by force by killing 10s of thousands of Greek Cypriots and then abused and enslaved Greek Cypriots for centuries? Because if there was ever a "forced marriage" and "violence in family" in Cyprus it was then, but I didn't see you having any problem with that so far. Greek Cypriots never asked you, let alone forced you, to "marry" them. Your ancestors made this decision by forcefully taking over Cyprus. So now you have to live with us either you like it or not, and if you truly can't live with us then go from where you came from. You have no right to take a part of our country, ethnically cleanse it from the majority of its population with 3500 years of history, and claim that part as yours. The middle ages and the time of land grab and ethnic cleansing are over, but you didn't seem to realize it yet.

Give it a chance to live side by side and helping each other if one day we want to live together again. At the moment your are trying to bash the Turkish Cypriots on the head and make them surrender but it will never happen.

On the contrary the TCs along with Turkey maintain 40.000 troops illegally in Cyprus and they are trying to use those troops to force us to surrender and accept a form of partition, something which has always been the Turkish dream about Cyprus.

On the other hand all we ask for is return to legality, liberation to our country from the Turkish troops, democracy and human rights for all Cypriots. Unfortunately the Turks reject everything and they are trying to use brute force to achieve their illegal aims.

Piratis lets get this clear your logic tells you that because our ancestors killed and controlled the island 500 years ago we are more to blame and the kin you have carried for all this time is the reason why your fathers did what they did only 40 years when we had the chance to build the united Cyprus you so clearly want to build today.

Wow that is a lot of built up kin and vengeance you have stored up whats to say you have not continued with this same mindset for the last 32 years and are still awaiting the opportunity to carry out and complete what you started back then.

You signed that legal marriage document in 1960 Piratis and then you proceeded to play around and beat me up, I have every legal right to be here and am not going anywhere don't worry about that. I choose not to live together with you since my big brother beat you shitless and I do not see any change in your character and do not feel you can provide the future I desire. The only option left for us is to part legally on good terms or live separately on bad terms for the rest of our lives. The choice is yours.

Lets just blow another one of your myths out of the water Piratis you keep stating this;

what happened to Turkish Cypriots was exactly what happened to Greek Cypriots. Both sides had about the same amount of casualties so why the one sided remark?

Your logic has always promoted that the side that killed more people are more to blame well you yourself state that the same number of casualties were suffered on both sides during 1960 and 1974 well if we equate this to the population at the time it will confirm that your side is more to blame. Again with 1974 you always quote 6000 dead well this is disputable as it includes people killed in the coup and soldiers. Our figure of 1500 does not include soldiers and if this figure is added then our figure is around 3000, in relation to population again and according to your own logic you are more to blame than we are. Do i agree with your logic? no I do not.

quote Piratis

Hitler did the same thing in Czechoslovakia, when he invaded and occupied that country with the excuse of protecting the German minority there. (unquote)

ooooooooh and we all know what happened to him, don't we?

I didn't say anything like that.

You said that in Cyprus there was a "forced marriage" and "violence in family" and I simply made clear when this forced marriage took place, which was looong before 1960.

Whats your problem with stating the truth Viewpoint?

Oh, yes I know, everything before 1960 is too old, everything after 1974 is excused, and what TCs did between 1960 and 1974 is forgotten. Therefore we erase all the terrible crimes that Turks committed and continue to commit against us as we speak and all we are left with is a tiny selectively chosen part of history that serves the Turkish propaganda in order to excuse even more illegalities and crimes against us.

You signed that legal marriage document in 1960 Piratis

Can you please show me this marriage document? What we signed was a document for the independence and sovereignty of Republic of Cyprus, and you today violate that agreement.

that. I choose not to live together with you since my big brother beat you shitless and I do not see any change in your character and do not feel you can provide the future I desire. The only option left for us is to part legally on good terms or live separately on bad terms for the rest of our lives. The choice is yours.

If those are your terms, then you are defining yourself as our enemy and we will treat you as such. You are again showing no kind of respect to us, as you did for most part of our common history.

Your logic has always promoted that the side that killed more people are more to blame

I use the amount of victims not to appropriate blame but to prove your argument that TCs suffered more than GCs as wrong.

Who are more to blame are those that at any given point didn't allow Cypriots to rule themselves in a democratic way and they committed crimes. Invading and killing people is a crime. Killing in order to defend your country from an invasion it is not. I hope you understand the difference.

You are not being very clear Piratis, you appear to be confused yourself.

You said that in Cyprus there was a "forced marriage" and "violence in family" and I simply made clear when this forced marriage took place, which was looong before 1960.

I didn't say forced marriage please check my posts, I said a marriage took place in 1960 anything before that was not a marriage it could only be a conqueror and his servant analogy.

Whats your problem with stating the truth Viewpoint?

Absolutely nothing you should try it sometime.

Oh, yes I know, everything before 1960 is too old,

So you feel you should bear a grudge kin against us for what our forefathers did 500 years so we had to pay the price from the marriage onwards to 1974.

everything after 1974 is excused

No one has excused us we are living unrecognized that's the price we pay.

and what TCs did between 1960 and 1974 is forgotten.

So we should not have fought the back at the people trying to sell us to Greece?

Therefore we erase all the terrible crimes that Turks committed and continue to commit against us as we speak and all we are left with is a tiny selectively chosen part of history that serves the Turkish propaganda in order to excuse even more illegalities and crimes against us.

The current situation and continuation is a product of our own actions and mistakes, you are just as much to blame as me maybe more but that's not really the point. The point is, is the current situation any better than reunification would be under a solution plan.

Can you please show me this marriage document? What we signed was a document for the of Republic of Cyprus, and you today violate that agreement.

1960 constitution the document for independence and sovereignty of Cyprus which you wanted to hand over to the Greeks. It was the only chance we had to build a united Cyprus for all of us to live in but you had other plans on the same day that you signed that document.

If those are your terms, then you are defining yourself as our enemy and we will treat you as such. You are again showing no kind of respect to us, as you did for most part of our common history.

Enemy, if you regard the wife you are separated from your enemy then yes we are you enemy but id you have any compassion you would want to see her living comfortably enjoying all the privileges you see fit for yourself. But there again if you do not respect her and have kin and vengeance in your heart and sole then you go ahead and do your worse as she will surely fight back with all her heart and sole to survive the best way she can.

We all know why you use the number of deaths that to show that we are the bad guys so we must be in the wrong, well it don't work that way and if you took a minutes to equated the number into % of population you will see who really suffered the most according to your own logic, with which I do not agree.

You were killing to hand over your independence and sovereignty to Greece not to defend against an intervention which in the end you invited yourselves. We were fighting for a right to stay and for all Cypriots to live on this island not for union with Turkey I hope you understand the difference.

To be honest, everyone has their view piont, and a lot on here who actually live in Cyprus are perhaps "to close" to the issues sometimes to look at this dispasionatlly.

I for 1 am only speaking from a few fisits to your island, but 1 thing that stays with me to this day was we hired a car and went out of the usual tourist crap to see the real Cyprus, we stopped in a little village in the green zone and saw the north border with soldiers their, being the usual tourist i got the cam-corder out, i video'd for about 5 seconds, and then had guns waved at me??, please 1 very obvious brit with his wife and small daughter, and they wave guns at me??

From that moment onwards i had made my mind up what i thought of the northern occupation, bullies who will resort to violence at every chance.

How can they expect respect when they show no respect to others??

Please steveash can I as a tourist take my camera and go visit the British army in Colchester and make a holiday movie, I don't think so.

You made up your mind from this one incident where you were definitely in the wrong, army's have strict rules and regulations you have to adhere, its the same all over the world not just here in the TRNC.

We TCs see the Turkish Army as the only entity that had the balls to step in when we were in trouble and in our hour of need. God only knows what would have happened but I'm sure if you were in the same position as we were back then you would not like to put your wife and baby daughter at risk, the Turkish army stepping into protect you and your family would be viewed as an heroic act rather than an invading force. But if they had not intervened you can bet there would not be a north Cyprus or any TCs you can tell you hate their country. They remain here to deter any stupid actions we are clearly capable of when you consider our history and until we can agree a solution which we have been unable to do for the past 43 years.

Please keep an open mind and consider all the facts, I have entertained visitors from Britain, Italy, America and a few other countries, they have loved every minute, especially the Turkish Cypriot hospitality, food, weather, historical sites and beautiful beaches.
