Support for EU membership in Turkey has fallen off sharply. I believe that Turkey will abandon this aim completely within a year or so. As it stands at the moment, EU officials and politicians keep reminding Turkey that at the end of the day, even if the accession talks are concluded successfully, "The capacity to absorb" Turkey into EU will be a major factor i.e. may be refused entry after all.
No country in its right mind can continue negotiations when so much foul play and bad intentions is so obvious. Indeed I believe that Turkey stands to gain if she abandons her aspirations to join EU and also terminates her Customs Union Agreement with EU. Under this agreement the import-export arrangements between Turkey and 3rd countries is controlled by EU, an organization in which Turkey has no say. This is really a pathetic situation and Turkey should put an end to it.
The immediate short term results may be bad for Turkey in the sense that the value of Turkish Lira will plummet but it should recover within a year.
