Turkey must respect its EU commitments

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Mickleham » Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:39 pm

Turkey must respect its EU commitments

What a joke!

We have been told by Mr Papadopoulos in 2004 that voting "YES" was risky.

Simply because Turkey could refuse to implement the Annan Plan after all.

Turkey is refusing to meet its obligations and commitments towards the EU full stop!

HOW TRUE WAS THAT!

Just as they did not win neither will the likes of you. Your people are my people and they have collectively far greater power than a menial demagogue full of hot air.
Who told you I'm a pacifist , read some of my post on the M East , Iran , N.Korea .
You are an advocate of further conflict and bloodshed in our nation I'm not.

You do not give a shit about Cyprus any more than VP does , frankly my dear you are an alien .

You think you understand me but you don't. You don't want to because you have convinced your self that you are right and I am wrong, how does that encourage discussion?

I believe that your way will encourage more violence and the intolerance you are showing does not make me see it any other way.

I love and respect every Cypriot but realise that there is a problem. My view is, because of these people, that separation is best. That is my view and maybe I am looking for proof that I could be wrong but with the majority of GC posters on this site I am being pushed further away. If you cannot see that then I do not know what else to tell you. I cannot go around spreading love for people that do not return it in any shape or form. I cannot speak for VP but I think we are saying the same sort of thing when we ask for dialog and a fair and sensible outcome. We are not a ball to be kicked around. The circumstances of today have to be taken into account and a complete dismissal of the TC position cannot be ignored. The position in which the TC people, even at the lowest level, must be considered and I don’t believe that the GCs that are arguing their point on this forum have done that.

Zan , I have dear friends T/Cs as well as G/Cs , but let me just tell you about the T/C friends that I have made over the years . One of them has been a mate for some 45 years , we used to go "girl hunting " together in the early 60s in London as young single men with one common ground, we were both from Cyprus and both adored the opposite sex. Through out the conflicts in Cyprus we argued a lot but still maintained a friendship , I swear on my mothers grave , this guy , Turgut , rung me to day to tell me he will be in Cyprus early November and asked if I was going to be there . He does not doubt my beliefs neither does he consider me "the enemy ".
I appreciate that those of us living in the UK do perhaps see things from another perspective , but for gods sake man give peace a chance. We are not that different. We have the same , and I repeat , the same needs , wants , values , family priorities and aspirations , what is it that separates us ? History , wars , religion , nationalism ??

The suffering that our people endured must not be repeated again. In our Cyprus there must never again be minorities and majorities , our President must never again be Greek Or Turkish , a Cypriot will be an honour for as all.

Zan , I know you are a young man , but you are well educated , eloquent and Im certain also sensitive , think of our future generations , the children of Cyprus that deserve to live in peace in their homeland.

Tell me Im an old man and full of shit but listen to what I say , it comes from the heart.

You say give peace a chance as if I am advocating war and violence. I am not. How does keeping two factions that are at loggerheads apart create violence. I would have thought the exact opposite were true because of the four examples of our differences you gave. History, wars, religion and nationalism.

If I take you at face value, as in what you post on this forum, then I would say to you that just like your old friend I do not see you as the enemy, personally. There are plenty here that I do though, and if they are representative of a percentage of the GC population, then that is my reason for thinking that separation is the best option.

I also share your dream of a united Cyprus but at a later date, when it is more workable.

I do not think you are full of shit either. It is a nice idea and it is an honourable idea but I still believe you have to react to the situation and not the emotions if you are to look at this thing objectively. These are hard truths that I have run over and over in my head to help me to decide what is best imo.

By the way, I am 46 years old. If you think that still warrants you calling me a young man then please, be my guest.

miltades you allow your heart to rule your head, this is very common for Cypriots living in disphorea, their longing for their homeland and emotional ties to seeing a peace situation back home clouds theit judgement.
We live and breath Cyprus on a dailt basis and have absoulutely nothing against the GC population with whom we share many similarites. But is this enough? imo no it is not. People like Zan and me constantly question our belief that a divided Cyprus is the best we are always on the search for opinions and ideas from GCs and their leaders to disprove our belief. One of th man reasons I am here on this forum is due to this fact which to date I have been unable to dispell.
