Solicitors in Famagusta

Postby lynne9999 » Fri Sep 22, 2006 2:33 pm

Hi
We are in the process of buying a house in Protars and the solictor that we are using seems hopeless. Is this just the Cypriot way (no disrespect) or could anyone recommend a good solictor for us.
Thanks

Yes, l can offer good advice.
My husband works as an estate agent.
Do Not use a solicitor your developer has recommended,
Do Not use a local solicitor............... go to Larnaca or Nicosia.
You won't find better advice than this.

Hi Lynne,

As snursy has already suggested - under no circumstances should you use a solicitor who's been introduced or recommended by your developer or vendor.

The British High Commission maintains a list of law firms on its website. Take a look at: http://www.britishhighcommission.gov.uk ... 2220923764 for more information.

I see that the problems in north and south Cyprus are much the same. I believe that you will find much useful information at the link below.

However bear in mind that I wrote these articles specifically with TRNC in mind. Hence the figures for inheritance tax etc. may be wildly differrent in ROC. Enjoy.

I can highly recommend Pittadjis Law Firm in Paralimni - we have bought two properties through them, and found them to be very helpful.
Let me know if you would like all their contact details.

Hi,

We found Marion Carter, in Proteras, very good, she is English and does not stand any messing about.

If you would like her email address, please PM me.

Like snursy3 my tip is that you do NOT use a lawyer in that area, go to Larnaca or Nicosia, better still get your UK (or wherever you're from) solicitor to suggest one through an international register.

Thanks everyone for your replies, unfortunately we have used a solicitor that our estate agents recommened. We had no idea, he does seem really slow amd we always has to ring, e-mail to get a response.
We are going to change if that is allowed.
Thanks again
Lynne

Hi Lynne

I would not be too concerned: your Estate Agent will know who are good - and who are not so good solicitors. It is very different to using your developer's solicitor with whom you will have a Contract and where there will be a clear conflict of interests should you choose to use the same solicitor.
