Statement of the RoC President at the 61st UN Gen. Assembly

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Kikapu » Thu Sep 21, 2006 8:41 am

Even though President Bush is a "Dummy", when he addressed the General Counsel, people were there to listen. Bush talked about the problems in, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, as well as few other places. He did not mention Cyprus at all, and Cyprus is in the neighbourhood of most of the other nations he did mention. Wow, 32 years of division of a country, and it deserved not even a mention, like even saying to the Cypriots, come on guys, enough is enough, why don't you all kiss and make up. Sorry my friends, we're all but forgotten by the international community. If we can't / don't want to solve our problems, the rest will have the "hands off" policy.

If we would stop thinking we are the center of the world and convince Greece and Turkey to back off, put aside our "I am Turkish" or "I am Greek" mentality and try to be Cypriots first and then whatever else, maybe then we can make it work. I am fraid we cannot, as both sides seem to be stuck in the past. I am not saying we havent both suffered but something's gotta give so we can move forward. That would require both sides putting the past behind them and working together. Unfortunately, even though I am hopeful, I do not see it happening anytime soon and status quo will remain just that-status quo. Maybe we are elcting the wrong people as leaders.

Maybe you should stop electing people from our dark past whos hands are probably blood stained and have drunken aliegence to hellenisim or taksim, we have.....he just needs someone on your side with the same vision of a united Cyprus based on BBF.

Maybe BBF is not the ONLY way to go. Have you considered that at all?

I know what that means. Didn't realize we were talking formally about it community to community for 32 years now... I think maybe someone else needs an earth check too.

Have you read of the incoherent ranting of Papadopoulos when he met Annan? He was telling the SG that he has information regarding the position of Talat on the Paris agreements and he thought he was revealing a big secret. Yet, in his hand, the SG had the propositions of Talat, straight from the horses mouth.
