30,000 illegal immigrants

Postby reportfromcyprus » Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:49 am

Cyprus' UN ambassador says there are between 10,000-30,000 illegal migrants working on the island.

Good, bad? Necessary? Not necessary? Do we have the infrastructure to handle them all?

Inquiring minds want to know :)

I saw an agent that supplies 'domestic servants'. Servants? This is the 21st century not the 12th. While 'servants' are acceptable then exploitation and illegal workers will be here.

Why bad for everyone else? They have been very good to me and I am not an immigrant nor an employer.

What gets my goat is the way sri lankans call their employers madam, 'madam says this and madam says that' and so much abuse of power sickens me. One started to call me that and i told her in no uncertain terms my name and not to call me madam, she is not a servant but an equal and should behave as such..

It is just a name. Ever heard of the public servants? ;)

Why bad for everyone else?

Because they work for less money and can cause unemployment and because anything illegal is bad

That is in their culture. They use madam and sir to show they are polite. I use plural when I talk to my boss or to older people in general just to be polite but this doesn't mean I am not equal.

what countries are represented in your illegal immigrants?
and are they taking jobs away from the Cypriots, or doing the jobs the Cypriots don't want to do?
just wondering...
