Good God!!! You make all ex-pats sound like lepers! :?

When I move it will be to an area of a Cypriot village, but living on an ex-pat complex of 20 houses. I still intend to mix with the locals as well.

Hi Susan, thats going to be about the time that we move out. Haven't got a definite move date as yet due to too many loose ends needing tying. Our house is just about finished. Have you bought a place in Kapparis or are you renting for a while? Do you know many people there already, or will it be a whole new experience? In the time that we have been going over to Cyprus we have made a quite a few new friends, both British and Cypriot. We're going over to Cyprus again in November to organise furniture etc. (never thought that i'd actually enjoy shopping again) can't wait!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. if my wife's reading this Saturdays are STILL for football! Hi there everyone. My family and I are moving to Larnaca in seven weeks ,hopefully. We will rent, initially until we find work. Will be looking for healthcare work,I work in Mental Health, but would consider security work as well, and my wife works in Hospital catering. We are looking forward to getting there, and feel that this is the right thing for us to do.Most people seem to be happy and enjoying life over there, but I suppose life is what you make it!!!!! It would be nice to hear from anyone who can offer any useful advice. :D

Most of the catering for hospitals and private clients are HACCP and prepared off site. Get a job lined up before you come out here. Security work is VERY low paid.

Thank you for your reply. My wife is already HACCP trained and if the security work is low paid then I think I may be able to stand that until we get established.I dont quite know how to get a job before we arrive, although I have spent a lot of time updating my CV,.I t looks quite good now!!! Any further information you can send me would be very much appreciated.I am hoping to bring enough cash to get us through the first month,an start work asap. :?: :?:

Hello Mark and all, we're moving out in February from wet north wales, with our two girls aged 2 and 6. We hope to rent for a year (or at least until we can sell our uk home) probably in the paphos/limassol area -although we'd like to settle in a more rural community longer term so we can keep some stock. Anyone have any links to parent/family groups in these areas? Or school recommendations?
Can't wait!!!

Check the Cyprus Weekly on Fridays for jobs. Phileleftheros on Wednesday has a job section. Contact agencies (Limassol has lots as does Nicosia). Job hunting in cyprus is very different to the UK. You find jobs via word of mouth. You may be the most qualified person, but family tends to get in before you. Advertise your services in the CW and Cyprus Mail before you come and see what response you get. For the first 3 months I was here I wasn't working. I finally got a job in Limassol where i would be travelling around the island selling advertising space for a magazine. I would have earned 375 pm but had to provide my own car and pay for petrol. No logic!!!! I didn't take it.

I must agree with Twinkle here. Allthough most jobs are heard via word of mouth, that usually means none of the 'family' members wanted the job first which in turn would suggest the job is low paid. I was very lucky when i moved over here in March to get a permanent job in April, as my money was rapidly running low.

Since then, after making contacts (which is VERY important), i have been offered other jobs but am reluctant to quit the one i have as they do provide a car which you will find out is an expensive business out here.
Also when applying for a job make sure it is for 'all year round' and not just for the silly seasons. This is still a posibility as tourism is still very busy even at this time of year.

Other than that all i can say to you all is you will never get rich here but you will wish you had moved here years ago.

Oh, and good luck.
