LAPTA NIGEL LIVES ON STOLEN GREEK CYPRIOT LAND

Postby lysi » Mon Sep 18, 2006 12:20 pm

Calm down NIGEL, it seems that you are reminded every day that YOU live in an unreconised illegal PUPPET state.
How does it feel not knowing if you will have to vacate the land that your nice home is built on & return it to the legal greek cypriot owner ?

I really can't believe all this!!

I came across this site while "googling" with: "north cyprus" forum

The Google results came back to me with two entries for this site, with the following comments.

1) "Top article on north cyprus. At the Cyprus discussion forum you can chat and debate with others about anything relating to Cyprus and not only. You can discuss the Cyprus problem, ..."

2) "At the Cyprus discussion forum you can chat and debate with others about anything ... On the whole, we have a very happy British Community in North Cyprus. ..."

And you know why I went onto your site? because the first one I found was nothing but a mud-slinging arena! I thought that cannot be what Cyprus is about; there must be some reasonable rational people there.

And then I find this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just more bickering! Look at the previous comment: "it seems that you are reminded every day that YOU live in an unreconised illegal PUPPET state. How does it feel not knowing if you will have to vacate the land that your nice home is built on & return it to the legal greek cypriot owner ?"

Is that what passes for reasoned mature dialogue on the island? If it is, I would certainly never want to "chat and debate with others about anything relating to Cyprus" nor do I see any evidence of "On the whole, we have a very happy British Community in North Cyprus". Far from it!!!

My wife and I have been thinking about retiring in Cyprus for a peaceful time. If the fora I have seen in the last few days are anything to go by, we don't want to. We have no desire to spend our retirement in a country where back-stabbing and name-calling are the way of life.

Is anyone going to bother to redress the balance??????????

peterlsheldon, those that "buy" stolen Greek Cypriot property in the occupied areas of Cyprus should have been behind bars because of the criminal offenses they have committed.

What is worst is that those criminals, instead of being jailed, they come to forums like this one and provoke the victims of the Turkish invasion by in essence telling them "Look at this nice villa we have on the land you were forced to abandon at gun point". All the replies those criminals get in response to their provocation are perfectly justified.

My wife and I have been thinking about retiring in Cyprus for a peaceful time.

There is no peace for those that choose to "buy" Greek Cypriot land in the illegally occupied part of Cyprus. Such action by them is a crime against us and we react to it accordingly. If you want peace simply act legally and you have nothing to worry about.

Peter firstly lets start with a Turkish Cypriot welcome to the forum greeting and wish you happy debating..

Peter the whole of Cyprus is pretty peaceful and tranquil place to live I hope you have a great time here and enjoy what the island has to offer.

Now the Cyprus issue is another kettle of fish and in time you will get used to the tone of the debates as they are sometimes heated and not very productive.

You have to remember there are 2 major communities on the island that have lived apart for 32 years, in these 32 years one side has been recognized thus enabling them to receive international support and develop to a stage where they alone entered the EU. The other side of the coin is a community while trying to save their lives and avoid becoming part of Greece have ended up isolated and unrecognized with only one supporter both morally and financially.

Now you try and get these 2 communities to agree on anything, one says black the other says white, we cant even organise to have the Olympic torch go from south to north that's how stupid we can get, so you can work out what the general mentality is when we try to discuss how to resolve our problems.

Please bear with us as many Cypriots have scars that will not heal until a solution is found but in general Cypriots as warm hearted and very friendly people who will go out of their way to ensure your happiness.

In my experience, Viewpoint is right.

The vast bulk of the communities on both sides of the border, Cypriot and incomers, just want to get on with their lives. And that is what they do. The majority of people have friends on both sides of the border, GCs, TCs and foreigners.

A small number of people have bees in their bonnets, but I guess that this is true everywhere and unless you want to get involved in politics, you don’t

I would like to thank "Viewpoint" and "Observer" for trying to redress the balance. Your replies were refreshingly understanding and unemotive and might well have reassured me if it had not been for the very first response to my post. If it had been from a member, I might have tried to balance it with your two constructive responses. But it was from the/a moderator! This thread calls itself the "Top article on north cyprus" (not my name!). And remember, from my first posting, that I was googling for north cyprus fora.

To get such a response from a moderator of such a forum is disgusting and sadly outweighs your reassurances. His inflamatory remarks virtually brand me a criminal even though I have never even set foot on your beautiful, friendly(?) island. He virtually told me I would have no peace. His final sentence tries to go some way to pacifying me but, by putting the word "legally" in bold, he is again assuming that I would act illegally.

Just a couple more remarks before I leave this forum (I have no wish to stay!)...

I have been an ex-pat for nearly 20 years. I live in Germany. You may know that this was a divided country and that its capital was also cut in half. Even today, I wouldn't say that the people from the two halves really love each other but I have never ever heard Cypriot-style mud-slinging here either before the re-unification or since.

As a guest in this country and, I had thought, in yours too one day, I have never done anything illegal and do not intend to. So to be addresssed that way was totally unfair. But maybe the word "fair" does not exist in Turkish/Greek, just as it does not exist in German (they seem to be adopting the English word for this concept which is catching on here).

That was a disgraceful response to receive from a forum moderator. I am beginning to forget about my Cyprus plans. It seems there are divided countries and divided countries.

Good-bye.
