Hi Humanist,

Thanks for the reply again and also for the encouragement to change the status quo and to continue with this. I realize that the majority of people are not satisfied with the existing situation.

The school itself would probably be a non-profit organization funded by the international community (both public donors like the EU and private ones like the Gates Foundation) while hopefully being of minimal or no cost to the parents. While I may not make “a profit,” I do hope that it would provide a salaried job for me, a salary comparable to my other colleagues working at this proposed school. My interest would be in training the teachers. The school would certainly be in the Nicosia area in a place accessible to both sides.

I hope I stay away from my country's army too. :)

Also, I slightly updated www.cypriotschool.org . www.1for2.org is to draw in the global interest and money (with there being applications to resolving other conflicts), but www.cypriotschool.org will be designed with the school’s parents, teachers, and students in mind.

Hello everyone. I thank those of you who have been following this thread and who have probably been wondering why I am moving so slowly on this concept. I'm still committed to it, but as I stated in a previous post on this thread, I decided to tend first to some other things whose closure I sensed would give me more clarity and perseverance for tackling this proposal.

I'm still working on settling those other affairs (not related to Cyprus) while also teaching in my regular job at a school, but for now, I thought I would update you with my latest summary on my website: http://www.1for2.org/4extendedsummary.html . A lot of it might look amateurish, but I'm not a professional web designer, and I'm not ready to communicate to a willing web designer all of the intracacies that will make this proposal work. I do hope to be there at some point.

So, I hope everyone who has encouraged me so far is doing well. Today's a big day for all of you, and I'm following the elections from over here in the US.

Hi Filitsa,

Thanks for your post on this thread. I'm very much familiar with SoP. There are several weaknesses with them compared to this:

- SoP meets one week during the summer and mostly online the rest of the year, as opposed to The Cypriot School students meeting 5 days a week, 9 months during the year, and for 16 years

- SoP uses teenage participants, who have already been negatively "socialized" through schooling, the media, and family experiences for many years - as opposed to The Cypriot School starting with two-year-olds who have a clean slate (no need to waste time undoing negative socialization, like talking about all the things they heard about the other side while growing up)

- SoP does most of its stuff away from the students' home environment (at least the face-to-face part), whereas this school would be embedded in the most sensitive part of Cyprus - the buffer zone

- SoP does not specifically target for enrollment the children of Cyprus's leading politicians - this school would (for 50% of its student body). What type of day school would entice both the RoC leaders and the "TRNC" leaders into sending their very own children to it? I'll be covering all aspects such as how history and language would be taught in my proposal.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for continued interest in The Cypriot School. I have two bits of news for the moment. First, pasted at the bottom of this message are links to the latest updates to the main website, http://www.1for2.org . There is still a lot of information I must add in order to make the concept clear to everyone.

Second, two days ago I received an e-mail from Emma Louise Matthews, a graduate student in planning architecture and civil engineering, and I am pasting it here in case any of you can help her. She wants to design a model of The Cypriot School. She will be in Nicosia on Saturday for one week. This message is all I know about her; we haven’t met yet. Though this message comes on very short notice, if you think you can help her in any way, please pm me, and I will send you her e-mail address. I will ask her to join CF when she can. I am a final year architecture student in Queens University Belfast. I am looking into basing my final year thesis project on a model of The Cypriot School, which means I would be doing an eight month study with extensive research and comprehensive design of a school based in the Buffer Zone in Nicosia. I am travelling to Nicosia on Saturday and will be there for a week. During this time I hope to gain access to the buffer zone under UN escort to look at possible site locations and do some surveying. My tutor is currently in talks with the UN regarding this; however we will not know until our arrival.

I would be very interested in talking to you regarding this if you have some spare time next week. Also I was wondering what stage you are at with this proposal? Do you have support for your ideas from any parties in Cyprus? Do you have a team working on it or is it your own project?

Hello I'm a GC born in London,grew up in London,live in London,have always lived in London,however the most important point is that in Cyprus GC represent the vast majority,and the other recognised ethic groups being TC,Armeninians,maronits and Latinos,the last 3 mentioned are not asking for any special recogniztion,but the TC like mainland Turks,want everything for nothing and cry like baby's when they don't get it.They were and still part of the island and have a set number of seats in the Parliament,where as if there were a 'free election'how many would they have ,maybe none 1-2?Look at how Turkey wants to be part of the EU,but does not make any effort to comply with any EU directives,instead complains that the EU wants to keep it a Christian group,the TC's have the same mentallity,thats where the problem lies.Otherwise common sense would say,that the TC would want to live on one island and experience the benefits that EU membership brings.Common sense???
