Hi Sylvia,
I'm afraid to say that there are many, many people in the same position as yourself and the other residents where you live.
I was on the radio a couple of months back with George Coucounis, Limassol MP Rikkos Erotokritou, and Lakis Tofarides (the Chairman of the Cyprus Land and Building Developers Association).
Everyone agreed there is a serious problem with Title Deeds, but little headway is being made. The developers point the finger of blame at the Land Registry & Planning Offices, who in turn, blame the developers.
Construction in vital to the Cyprus economy accounting for some 8% of the countrys' GDP and it's been estimated that some CYP 40,000,000 revenue is being lost to Government from Property Transfer Fees, etc.
In spring next year, Channel 4 will be broadcasting a program about the Title Deed problems. When the word gets out to the 4,000,000 or 5,000,000 Brits who will be watching the program, it could have very serious repercussions for the Cyprus property market and the islands' economy.
Hpefully, TPTB will act to remedy the situation; at the moment, it's a complete mess.
Regards,
