Staying near Ayia Napa end October-Honeymoon !!! Any ideas

Postby fray bentos » Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:02 pm

Hi all, what a great forum. My wife (blimey, first time I've used that !) and I are staying just outside Ayia Napa at the end of October for our Honeymoon-hooray!!!.

Put simply, has anyone any ideas on restaurants nearby they can reccommend, especially want to try meze and seafood and whats available historically that end of the Island, wnat to have some beach time but also delve into the isalnd a bit, also any ideas on reasonable car hire in Ayia Napa.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Richard :D

Not a very romantic place to take the wife to Napa. Try treating her to the Colombia Hotel in Pissouri. Very nice, she will love it. This was the view from our room

For Greek food it's a bit of hit and miss in Napa. Personally the slightly out of town restaurants (on the strip kind of opposite Nissi Beach) are the most 'traditional' family run establishments I've come across.
In Ayia Napa itself it's very focused on 'the square' area which is mainly bars. At that time of year the place will be pretty quiet and you'll get lots of offer in the bars that are open - free shots, 2 drinks for price of 1 etc. It will be a different place to how you see in the height of the summer (ie.not honeymoon material!)
There is a nice Thai restaurant in Napa just before the Square. Forget the name but it's decent food, very good wine list, knowledgable staff. Anastasia on the list here - you said your uncle owns a prestigious Chinese? Maybe you could let us know the name of that?
I know the Japanese restaurant is very popular and gets booked out very quickly.
I'd be interested to know any Greek traditional restaurants in Napa as I've looked long and hard and haven't found any.
Oh...the man outside the monastry who grills corn on the cob is prob most traditionally 'Greek' or 'Cypriot' I have found in Napa!

Congratulations anyway!

Most of the Bars/Cafe's will be shut in Nappa come the end of October. I was just up there last weekend and most of the bars are having their end of year parties.. Why not take her to Protaras, it's nicer, cleaner and not full of 18 year old piss heads dancing on the tables....
just a suggestion.

Yup, pissuri is lovely, but a bit boring i guess... but perfect for a quiet holiday. The quality of **** stars is way better of what u will get in AyaNapa. I made a mistake going to AyaNapa this summer, but managed to get 75% of my money back after a scandal with my travel agency.

Hi, thanks for all the replies. Travel out to Cyprus next Sunday. It was the wife who booked Ayia Napa !! not me. We are however aprox 2 miles outside on the way to Larnaca on all inclusive so may well be hotel bound all week. Would like to get out a bit tho and explore, may hire a car.

Thanks

Well, i guess you are talking about Macronissos Vilage... that place is nice.

simonwjones, how about 4 star hotel doesnt have the following:

PoolBar facility,
Pool waiters,
BEach (extra cost) <-- alltho on the brochure it clearly shows one as part of a hotel.
Consierge or anyone to help with bags,
No ramps
Buffet once a week... the rest is alacarte. Booked halfboard... waste of money.
No childcare facilities,
No GYM! No entertainment whatsoever... includiong pool gymnastics, massage, sauna etc.
The list goes on, rooms stink, cleaning is bad, hotel is way understaffed...

Anyway, it was a waste of my 2 precious weeks.

I see your point!!! But the brochure wouldn't of mentioned it had the above surely

I have stayed there before, 2001. I went with a couple of mates its a far walk into Ayia Napa and you are right there are no facilities at all. The only entertainment was a bald security guard that walked round at night. He always used to come to our balcony and chat for 30 minutes or whatever. The beach was a five minute walk also.
