Fray Bentos - make sure you bring a few sweaters when you come.. Days are averaging 25-27 but nights are very cool and the breeze is cold. We're wearing jumpers at night where I am. Just a suggestion. Also, if you're doing All Inclusive, you will want to make sure you have trousers, decent shoes and a collared shirt, otherwise many hotels will not let you eat in their restaurants (even if you've paid for half board etc) unless you're dress appropriate. This happened to me at a 5* on Dhekelia Rd when we first moved here before the house was ready... we were not impressed in the least!

That's a good point. In April I stayed at a 4* all inclusive near Nissi Beach and they required you to 'dress' for dinner so to speak. The food was totally average as is always the case with these arrangements and I don't think I was ever up for breakfast. ;-)
On the first night I perused the buffet and asked the waiter "Do you do Greek or Cypriot food?" he replied "ah yes, madam, that's Tuesday night"
Hmmm. Great! Rock on Tuesday then.

Remembered a Cypriot restaurant that is decent in Napa - had a gorgeous traditional lunch at the outdoor style restaurant overlooking Nissi Beach - there were lots of Cypriot families eating there too which was a good sign. The meze was good (fresh salty sardines, baked feta with loads of oil and oregano, aubergines, keftedes, village salad with loads of pickled thorn bushes - turned out to be capers branches watch out for the thorns in the back of your throat!) and the Aphrodite wine was reasonbly priced and decent!

Hi Richard

For traditional Cypriot meze, try the Costas Ropas Taverna in Paralimni. Book on a Friday evening and enjoy the live music. It's a favourite for local families. Great atmosphere.

Also The Square Tavern in Sotira. Find the Co-op and it's closeby. Typical cafe-style, again full of locals. They just keep bringing plates of food until you say no more. Cheap, cheerful and very tasty. We've only been at lunchtime.

For fish, head out to Potamos Liopetriou.

Enjoy! Marion

Hi, I have a question about Agia Napa. I know that it used to be a traditional fishing village, but when they developed it, did they knock down the whole village (Old houses and stuff) and start again, or did they keep the old buildings and just turn them into Clubs, pubs, etc. Random question I know (Hey that's me, Random as a guy wearing a coat to the beach in the height of summer....... in Cyprus! :)), but I was just wandering whether it had managed to retain any of it's old character (apart from the Monastery).

Cheers! :)

Try The Limelight in Napa. Great Lamb. Order a joint for 2 beforehand. Hurry as it closes for the winter. Loukas on Ayia Thekla beach is great in the winter. Big fire, good food, usually provides home grown fruit with the coffee. Always used Champion for car hire. Pretty good but I have nothing else to compare it with. I think Napa is great. A huge pool of places to eat. Keeps the prices down. So eat local in the villages, the place mentioned earlier in Sotira is good, but if you want Italian, Chinese, Japanese or a good cooked breakfast then Napa is there. Also try the Fish and Chips at Dekhalia base. Right on the beach.
Congrats and enjoy.

The fishing harbour (Liminaki) is still there and very much still used by local fishermen with traditional boats, although it is also used by tour boats as well. Centre is Ayia Napa is mostly shops hotels and bars/clubs.
