Now that the Orams have won, what does the future hold ?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"It's not over until the fat lady sings"

They way I heard it on the BBC this afternoon was that the case was won on very complex points of law and that there is every chance the verdict will be reversed.

THe case can go to any court within EU, if it goes to EU court then it will be in favour of cyprus, if turkey joins Eu then the Cypriot decision will be applied to the occupied areas. In addition if cyprus insists there can be a pan-European warrant to arrest those ppl.

Nope,

The reason it was taken to the English Courts was to enforce the judgement against the Orams UK assets.

As long as TRNC remains outside the "acquis communitaire" it doesnt matter if Turkey's part of the EU or not.

EU arrest warrants only apply in criminal cases - not civil ones.

Why waste money on British courts that will never be fair for Cyprus? Just hire somebody to put a bullet in Orams head. End of story and justice served. No criminal like the Orams should get away with crime.

So you advocate murder????

I would take your comments as being solicitous and an incitement to murder. You could be a conspirator if any such heinious deed were to occur.

You should choose your words far more carefully.

Whether you like the Orams or not, your comments have just lost you any sympathy you may have had.

Me for one. Not only that I am surprised the board allows such a comment to post as your comment is far more offensive than a lot of the 'handbags at 5 paces' that ususally goes on here.

People say things out of character when highly upset, and this case is really upsetting to Greek Cypriots, and a sign of desperation, I think, since there's no solution in sight.

On top of it, Apostolides has to pay 75% of 867,000 pounds in legal fees to the Orams.

Still, it was his decision to take the case to the UK, and he'll have to live with it until the appeal, if he decides to go ahead with it.

If he loses his appeal, then it will mean that in the future, Europeans buying land in the north of Cyprus won't have to worry about being sued in Europe.

Whether they'll be compensated in the case of a solution in Cyprus is a different matter. I don't know whether the Orams would be compensated if there were a solution and the property given back to Apostolides. In my opinion, there wouldn't be much chance of that happening, although it would depend on the terms of the solution.
