I bet that buying in the North, you can buy a larger property, more bedrooms with better workmanship at a much much cheaper price.
Now what looks more attractive to a buyer?
Buying stolen goods will always be cheaper. However doing so is illegal. Therefore such criminal illegal actions are attractive only to criminal scumbags that don't mind to gain illegally by exploiting the pain of others.
Why cant we just stop the hatred, as none of the brits that live here are responsible for the actions of past govts, and do not deserve to be blamed for them..
G.Man nobody (apart maybe from Lysi) is blaming
ALL British. Such generalization would be obviously wrong. However you have to consider 2 factors, that I believe fuel the heated discussions between some British and GCs:
1)
The actions of the British government
today are still hostile towards Cyprus. Along with the USA, the UK totally overlooks the crimes of Turkey in Cyprus and they do everything to support the Turkish interests, and in this way not only helping them to continue to ignore international law, but also helping them to continue with the human rights violation in Cyprus and even in Turkey itself (Kurds etc).
Of course the policies of the UK against Cyprus have another reason: That by maintaining a conflicting environment between GCs and TCs they can guarantee that Cypriots will be always preoccupied fighting each other and they will never be truly united, in which case they can easily demand the removal of the British bases (in fact they used this conflict as an excuse to not even pay the rent for the bases!!).
At the same time they can use the Cyprus problem as another way to get Turkey to serve their interests. Since Turkey will not want to lose the support of UK/USA in Cyprus, EU accession etc, Turkey will always act in ways that serve the interests of the Anglo-Americans.
Now whats your personal fault in this? As I said before, generalizing is wrong. However the UK is a democratic country, and theoretically at least, the actions of their government should reflect the beliefs of the majority of the British people. Therefore while not every single British person is to be blamed, collectively the British people, who support such kind of governments that are so hostile against us, can not be totally excused from all responsibility. (unless of course you claim that democracy is only theoretical in the UK)
2)
Second, and most important in our case, is the behavior of some of the British forum members towards Cyprus. While these British live here, I don't see many of them supporting the rights of Republic of Cyprus over its own land that is currently illegally occupied by Turkey. In fact many of them follow their UK government and think of Turkey as their good buddy, and not as the country who is illegally occupying the northern part of the country which they are residents (Cyprus).
Unfortunately it can get even worst with some people. While they can be very vocal and complain about Cyprus and Cypriots (Cypriots don't stop at red lights, Cypriots this, Cypriots that), they don't seem to be bothered much with the crimes that some of their compatriots commit against us by "buying" land in the occupied part of Cyprus. The criticism towards those criminals is very light, if any, and some forum members even support them and their criminal illegal actions! Thats in sharp contrast with their complains about Cypriots, were these same British can moan for pages if there is something they don't like about Cyprus.
Such kind of behavior is obviously very provocative and the reaction from Greek Cypriots is natural. Just imagine if a foreigner (e.g. an Arab) comes to your country and he openly supports crimes and illegalities against your country. What would you think of this foreigner?
