Turkish & Cypriot peacekeepers in the same force?

Postby reportfromcyprus » Sun Sep 03, 2006 3:56 pm

An interesting story is developing; Turkey is to vote on whether they'll be sending peacekeeping troops to Lebanon. Cyprus is also sending two National Guard officers and playing a big role in the transportation of troops.

Turkish and Cypriot military cooperating? Must be a first, if the vote is positive in Turkey.

I'm sure I'll be accused of "Turkey Bashing" but I am going to say it anyway. It seems absolutely incredible to me that a country that has defied 22 UN resolutions regarding her actions in Cyprus can be involved in any UN peacekeeping force, its the height of hypocrisy.

very few countries have a clean record. if only those were allowed to join the peace keping missions, then there would have been no peace keaping missions. as simple as that.

its not right, but thats how the world works. had we had another choise we would have used it.

on the topic at hand, i dont see any coopearation sprining up.
it is just a coincidence i would say. they will just happen to be at the same place for the same purpose but i dont see that affecting the situation in cyprus in any way. and the chances are that they will not even meet. besides we are just sending two people
