Notebook

Postby Sotos » Sat Sep 02, 2006 8:01 pm

I am thinking to buy a notebook computer to read some e-books while in bed  Do you own one? If you own both notebook and desktop why do you use one instead of another?

My husband owns one for work and he uses it for everything else too. He uses it more than his desktop.

I use my desktop mostly as its a powerhouse.... AMDFX60 twin Radeon 1900XT's 1TB storage etc...

But when I am in bed the Gateway Notebook is okay to surf with and its darn handy when I go to Egypt

:D

Macintosh

Postby chedda » Sat Sep 02, 2006 11:50 pm

We are a mac only family i can recommend them 100% never had a problem no viruses security problems etc etc they are all networked wirelessly really a dream compared to windoze ! There is a place in Nicosia if your interested take a look youll never regret it , its called primastore . Unless you like playing games or already have a lot of pc software there is no comparison imho. My oldish G4 laptop is invaluable while my desktop G5 with dual 30" screens is awesome for my architectural photography work. Incidently there are pure ebook readers available now black & white screens in tablet form which may better suit your needs.

I have a notebook which I use also as a desktop. I bought external keyboard and mouse and I use it like a desktop. I never use it to read while in bed.

You should also get an external 19"+ monitor and a port replicator. This way there is no need for desktop if your notebook is powerful. The reason I stayed away from notebooks so far is that I believe the brake easier.

I had a notebook before, now I use a desktop.

Recently I was thinking about getting a laptop but then decided I don't really need one.

For a few people this is true, but notebooks are pretty much strangled in terms of performance compared to a desktop..

No notebook comes close to the power of my desktop for graphics work, music editing etc
