British if you don't like Cyprus, go home

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Strahd » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:57 am

Does any one of you ever thought what is the percentage of foreigners in Cyprus?

Officially is a mere 5%, unofficially maybe 8% so... do you want a separate state as well? Maybe BRP (Brittish republic of Paphos?).

These are some of the reasons our uncestors wanted the annexing of Cyprus to the Hellenic state, so that this 8% would have been 0.08%... Now due to this we are loosing our identity and we have to put up with those who feel like this island should kiss their a$$ because they are investing money on it.

Well both my wife and I LOVE Cyprus.

We are coming to your beautiful island on Sunday for two glorious weeks.

We have been coming here for years and even got married there.

Any one who does like Cyprus needs to be taken into a dark room and beaten to a pulp ( or simply just don't visit like another forum member suggested )

Lovey idea Brent (beating the moaners to a pulp), but as a holiday maker you will not have experienced dealing with Government bodies in Cyprus. You will also not have had the problems of trying to set up a business here, as a foreigner; I presume you have never had the trauma of buying a property in a country where you may have to wait 10 years before you get your Title Deeds...

But we still LOVE Cyprus :-)

Well had you been annexed you would have lost all control of issues that affect cyprus and been just one more part of a govt whose main issues are its mainlanders..

And let me tell you something about some Greek people I know (not greek cypriots) they bitch and moan about cyprus MORE than any english people I have spoken to...

One greek I know has had awful problems with the govt officials, sorting out residency, sorting work permits, sorting child tax benefits... it has taken him 7 years to get properly settled here..

The grass may be greener on the other side, but astroturf is a bitch on the knees...

British come here because the locals are very welcoming (on the whole) many speak english which aids integration and it is a lovely, low crime place to live...

That doesnt mean there arent issues that cause us difficulties, and cause locals issues as well... Govt officials are just one of those...

Dont be so paranoid about the odd whinge, as its a national pastime for lots of brits and cypriots alike...

I don't believe brits think you should kiss their ass for coming here, most want to integrate and be at one with the locals, but I do believe that a lot of tourists think like that WHEREVER they go...

lets also not forget the hundreds of TC workers that cross the border every morning to work for GC employers because they are cheaper than GC workers...

Those british will get their comeuppance at some stage, when they try to sell on their stolen properties with no lejitimate deeds...

Same as the GC's who have built on TC land...

Well put Svetlana. this Brent character has the same rose blinkered view that many have...... someone like him probably thinks that its cute that the pay here is rubbish, the red tape is miles long, and that if he is EVER involved in a traffic accident, no matter what the circumstances, he will NEVER be in the right, or that the hole left in his roof is there because it aligns with the North Star at night and will never let any rain in.........oh and by the way,.....try getting a cypriot to buy anything you are selling mate!

He sounds to me like another who will strut around saying, 'I bought in Paphos', with a haughty tone and a thrusting of the shoulders...... then go home broke in a few months telling his mates he couldn't stand the heat.

I live here. and i like it here and have some very good friends (Cyps). There's things I don't like. But given a choice of the UK or here. No contest. I dont bitch. I get on with it. But I aint blind!

Firstly lets just set the record straight here. I was replying to an original post of " I see many British here complaining about our country. If they don't like it why they are here? There are flights to UK 5 times every day. Go and take the first one and go back to your country. We will not miss you at all. "

I have never said I know anything about living in Cyprus on a permanent basis. I don't know that the pay is rubbish and I certainly would not think its cute.

You don't even know me, yet you can easily tell what I think ?????

THE MICROPHONE needs to climb down off that soap box - you're taking this far too seriously. Its supposed to be a fun forum. If you want to go and have your voice heard, do come to London Hyde Park and stand in speakers corner

I think in that case the cypriots would have been 0.08% and not the foreigners.

I don't think you know much about Cyprus at all, and judging from your first original idea of beating the moaners to a pulp I can't believe you're capabable of a thought worth the name.

Stick to your Brandy Sours and Meze's and enjoy your holidays.
