Traffic lights are optional to obey

You claim that this is true for the majority of drivers? Only some teens on bikes can often do that. Most of your points are valid only for a minority of drivers and many are valid for a very small minority. Cyprus driving discipline is not great but you don't have to exaggerate like that!

Sotos

So how many cypriots at the front of the queue do you see stop behind the white line and remain there until the lights change to green?

Yes its the MAJORITY that cannot obey the rules of the road...

There are a some that drive very well tho..

Standards in the UK are dropping, as more traffic cameras come into place people drive stupidly elsewhere to make up for lost time...

And road rage... sheesh...

At least its not gun son the highway like america yet..

OK, this is one of the few things that you said that is probably done by the majority. But what about the rest? That "red lights are optional" for example? For more than 50% of drivers red lights are optional? Thats a lie!

Your point is too general, Sotos.

If someone complains about something that's wrong, like dangerous driving that results in deaths every week; or pollution in the environment which affects people's health; or being ripped off by high prices, which damages the economy, then they're entitled to their opinion and should express it!

Complaints are the first step in making changes and improving something.

If someone is an outright racist and complains about the people in an obviously bigoted way, that's wrong, I think, but that would apply for Cypriots complaining about the British as well. It works both ways

Getting defensive and telling people to get on a plane and go back home achieves nothing much, really.

of course they would survive ...how do you think all the other nationalities that live in england and dont speak the language survive....

Sotos wrote:bigfatlondonboy, I have relatives in the UK and they speak English. Their children that were born there speak better English than Greek. Don't tell me that you know loads that don't speak English. If they didn't they would not be able to survive there!

Sotos, read your rules of the highway...

On a red light, you stop behind the white solid line, not over it, not on the pedestrian crossing area...

To do so is ignoring the purpose of the red light, which is to stop traffic so other traffic can move or people can cross...

I often have to step around the front of a car at a red light because they are nose to tail trying to edge further accross the junction, and they invariably still sit there once the light has changed as well...

Its no lie, its a fact.... follow the rules, make it safe for pedestrians...

In the UK if drivers did that they would get a ticket, here the police just ignore it...

What kind of message does that send to the drivers? I will tll you... ITS OK!

Agreed!

My cousin came over from Canada recently, and he was shocked at the way people drive here, and that was one of the things he mentioned. He said he could not get away with that in Canada.

It's almost scary how some people drive. I saw someone doing a U turn on the highway a few nights ago, just before the Orphanides roundabout. I looked back in disgust.

Look I will say some drive to a decent standard, they are just few and far between..

Even with all the idiots, its still as safe if you pay attention due to there being less cars on the roads...

Anyway, its a minor whinge and doesnt affect my view on the place..
