I am thinking of moving to cyprus an have two children 7 an 5 the schools is a big worry for me .Ime worried that they will not cope with the language very well which will then make them feel isolated. If anyone has been through this allready an has some good advice to share i would be very gratefull.

Ady, it will be tough for them at the begining, but kids have a habit of picking up languages very quickly.

they will be just fine. i have a friend who moved to cyprus with 2 kids 3-4 years older than yours and they adjusted just fine during the first year. they now speak fluent greek, go to greek public school, and have friends from all over the place
at that age, theres nothing to worry about.
be warned though, the first few months will be difficult for them.. and maybe for you too. its all good after that though

Great to hear this good advice. We really want to move over to Cyprus and this (as well as finding a job) is all that has prevented us.

well actually they will go through hell at the begining as my kids did they did not speak a word of greek im cypriot but my husband is english and before we moved to cyprus we spoke only english for a start they would cry and refuse to use the school toilets as they where holes in the ground (but the teachers have proper toilets) for ages my kids would cry and not want to go to school every morning i had to force them to go .theres also to many kids in the class to give your kids special attention which they will need to learn the language my advice is send them to english private school if you dont want to ruin their education as i did with mine or better still stay where you are.

Fair point. As we like visiting Cyprus regularly, I'm tempted for us all to have Greek lessons before we would come over anyway. If nothing else, I would see this as a requirement for me getting employment. That said, the private school would make sense, but with salaries as they are in Cyprus I'm not sure that I could afford this.

Life in the UK is not great (ever increasing costs), loutish behaviour etc - and I'm supposed to live in a good area! So, I do see benefits in moving away.

Hi there.

I've been throught the same process and decided English Curriculum schools are the best option for quick settling in. They have small class sizes, are with other british kids a well as other nationalities and are used to the system.

Depends where you are. I decided on Limassol because there is a bigger choice of these schools (Foleys, American Academy, Heritage, St Mary's, St John's, Logo's etc).

Try www.cypruseducation.com

or http://cyprus.angloinfo.com/af/250/cypr ... oling.html

Good luck
