Why did the Pres. give up his presidency of DIKO?

Any ideas as to why Papadopoulos gave up his position as president of DIKO?

It's a sudden move, the party didn't even know about it.

He announced he would step down long time ago. The reason they wanted him to stay more is that they are afraid that they will now have some internal conflicts between those that want the presidency of DIKO.

Papadopoulos is in politics since his 20s. He is quite old already. He will probably see if taking the presidency (of Cyprus) for one more term is possible. If not he will just retire.

It was his gift to Vice President Kleanthous. In this sudden and unexpected move he tried to knock out Marios Karogian, one of the few sober persons in DIKO. Also, this will now allow him to charter the path to his second term. To this effect, he has already the resignation of Christou in front of him (Christou is his best Minister and a nenekis - like me!) and of course the backing of a large chunk of AKEL, headed by Katsourides, the staliniest of the lot.

Resign because he is old? You are daydreaming Piratis.

P.S. Andreas Simou Angelides, said last year that Papadopoulos by himself is DIKO and by himself he is Cyprus!

on the question at hand, i do not know and i do not really care.

on the matter that tpap, or any politician in cyprus, would withdraw because he is too old, anyone who things like that is most probably not living in cyprus

???? Can you please explain how you got this theory in your mind? I don't know who is supriced but Papadopoulos had made it clear he would resign long time ago.

Papadopoulos had everything in his political career. Going back to be just president of DIKO would be a step backwards for him. I can bet you anything you want that Papadopolos will either be elected again as president or retire. Do you want a bet?

I am glad that the film is going to Venice! I don't think it would make much difference if that one scene was different. I am sure it would be great anyways! :P When we will have the chance to watch it?
