Well said Strahd and Piraitis, I completely agree with both of you. If Cyprus would have become a part of Greece, say when Crete did, or Rhodes etc, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
While nobody doubts that Cyprus had many conquerers and rulers, the fact is that the population remained largely Greek. The language of Greek prevailed, the Greek culture prevailed, including music, the arts, religion etc etc. The fact is that almost every nation on earth had different conquerers and settlers, but does this mean the Germans are not German, the French are not French, English are not English, Italians are not Italian, Spanish are not Spanish etc. OF COURSE NOT!
Of course we are Cypriot and an independent nation, but we are also Greeks! Not Greeks from Greece, but Greeks from Cyprus (but Greeks all the same!). I do not believe that the two contradict in any way. It is not Cypriot or Greek, but Cypriot AND Greek. This does not in any way mean that Cyprus cannot become one and we cannot be Cypriots with TCs.
If anyone believes that we have to suppress our differences, just simply to live together, then what a sad, sad world we must live in. What hope is there for the EU? Respect and Trust is the way to achieve the lasting solution in Cyprus, not mutating into something different.
