Do you prefer Chi or tsai?!?!

Yes but all traditions generally gradually die out, its just part of the world getting smaller and part of a multicultrual society which is what Cyprus is becoming daily.

As for the language, well Cypriot is not a language and cannot be taight in schools therefore will definitely die out. Some of the words Cypriots use on a daily basis cannot even be written because the Greek alphabet doesnt have the letters.

allow me to disagree.
the fact that the gc dialect is not a language is not a good enough excuse for it to get lost. besides there is a way to write those sounds that cannot be written with the greek alphabet.

the most absurd is that people cannot understand that a language is more rich and bautiful the more dialects it has , rather than when it looses them.

exactly the same way, the excuse of globalisation is cheap.

chomsky was on RIK last night and he reffered exactly to that. in a number of places people are trying to revive their culture and their language.

the main problem with the cypriot dialect and culture in general is because WE dont want to keep it alive. we dont care not to mention we feel ashamed for it.

(but it all suits as just fine to blame everything on forces stronger outside our control. if we really felt like cypriots we would keep our dialect. instead we chose homoganisation. it is a choise, not an inevitability) .

Why those other places lost their culture and are now trying to revive it then? Did they manage to revive it?

We should definitely try to keep our dialect and traditions. However "globalization" is not an excuse, its a fact.

Why are we all wearing trousers? Ever thought of that?

I think in a sense GC's are trying to rid of their Greekness and be Cypriots so maybe one day the might live in peace with their TC brothers. I do not think though, that this is the route to take. We might not be Greeks but the language we speak and parts of our culture are. Parts of our culture is also a bit Turkish. That mixture of cultures is what makes us special. We shouldnt be trying to deny or rid of any of it. We should preserve it and be proud of it.

andri_cy --- well said. In a world that is becoming smaller and smaller culturally, together with communities that have multicultures dove-tailed into their daily existence, it is important that we maintain contact with our own cultures, customs and ensure they are preserved and practiced in for future generations

I feel Cyprus should keep its uniqueness, perhaps maybe because it was so small, it felt vulnerable against invaders and so needed Greece to shield it. But now it doesnt need it, it should cultivate the mix of diversity it has intergrated over the centuries, instead of trying to be Greek, which it is not...

And you , uniqueearthling know absolutely nothing about Cyprus or its people , since like the Asians , Pakistanis , Bangladeshis who came and settled in the UK for primarily one reason , just as you did in Cyprus ie the weather ,
you as well as they , have made a conscious decision to remain in your own little worlds refusing to integrate due to mainly luck of interaction skills that come natural to most people. I'm highly critical of people who settle in a country and harbour a misguided mistrust and menial grievances against the locals , I'm not referring to criticism which everyone is entitled to expand , but to deep rooted intense dislike approaching hatred manifested in every encounter with local life. It shows clearly and makes people react adversely just as I'm reacting and I have never even set eyes on you.If you are indeed a pleasant person blessed with a reasonable degree of attractiveness and manners you should have no problem where ever you go.
