I HATE CYPRUS!!!!

Postby Newformz » Wed Aug 23, 2006 1:34 pm

Why is it everytime i need to go shopping or banking everywhere is F***ING SHUT!!! Im letting my anger out here cuz i've had it up to here with this country! It's no wonder the economy is so low here, no one can be arsed to get up of there arses and do some frigin work!!

I mean how hard is it to work a full day shift in an air conditioned area, i aint taking no heat excuses cuz i work and many other English people i know work from 9 - 6 and usually much later. I work 8.30am - 7.30pm doing web/graphic design i hate to have holidays or breaks cuz i love to work.

How are people supposed to do shopping, banking and important things when everywhere closes all the time. Also why so many holidays?? Ive never seen so many holidays in my life, it's like an excuse here not to work. Theres always some weird holiday or bank holiday.

I had 2 really important things to do today but cuz i work i have to go at lunch time, but wait....everywhere closes at lunch so how the hell do i eat?? Also the banks close when people are free from work to go, by the time people finish work they cant do anything.

Saturdays!! OMG...The weekend is the most important time for people to do there shopping and places are closed. If everywhere stayed open all day Sat & Sunday Cyprus would be making a fortune.

Ok enough of my rantings, i would love to hear your views and expressions on this matter!

Thanks.

We all agree with you. I think it's to do with the Government not changing the laws. The fact is on a Saturday morning I have to get up at the crack of dawn and try and fit in 10hours worth of chores into 5 hours. Impossible! The banks are the biggest joke going. Heaven forbid they do a full day. I mean when would they go their subsidised Gym or when would they have time to run their private companies and shops. I mean they open at 8.30, when everyone is working and close at 1 when everyone is just leaving for lunch.

Cyprus should follow the lead of the other countries in the EU and cater to the consumer. I agree, it would make a killing!

do the banks not offer internet banking over there?
what about Bpay so u can pay all your bills over the phone??

our banks are pretty crap here too in that u have to wait for ages in que but we have quick chq deposit bags and at least they are open till 5pm - very rarely I go to the bank though.

i do remember it being hard in cyprus with the shop's hours so limited
but I think its worse that we have almost 24hr shopping here - even most public holidays have the shops open - its not right.....

24hr is bit extreme but normal EU working hours should be applied for the peoples sake and the countrys (and my sanity)

Yea there is internet banking here but it's no where near the same as the UK and i work right near most banks anyway (Mikarious) so i just pop down.

Completely agree with you Newformz. My first visit to Cyprus was a shock. Everything is always closed. There is always something open when you need it in London. And in the USA, banks are right inside most grocery stores and most are open at least 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and some even on Sundays. I am definitely spoiled.

Get real! Britis work more hours coz they dont have life.

You shall respec the fact that some ppl, i believe the majority, want a quality of living and not becoming robots and slaves like chinese and soon british. Cypriots and Greeks are already working more hours thatn the EU average. British want an opt-out in order to work 60 hours per day while 48 is EU's max. Some nations have 35hours / week. IN addition there is a pressure to cut from holidays, which is going to be a disaster for the tourist industry.

So get a life and try to work less, unless you want to die from heart attack at the age of 50 or get a retirement at the age of 75?

Europeans have to fight for their rights. In addition..use e-banking.

The banking situtation as well as businesses being closed early or in the middle of the day is hard I have to agree, but if you hate Cyprus so much why dont you go back to your country or a different country? I dont think anyone is keeping you or anyone that doesnt like it there hostage...

I'm not comparing. I simply said my first visit to Cyprus was a shock because I'm spoiled by being used to banks, stores, etc. being open. I am a city girl. The smallest place I lived was in Kentucky, USA and it had about 500,000 in city proper and about 1 million in the area. You get used to certain things so when you visit something totally different, it is a shock. Actually, I think Cyprus is quite relaxing but I don't live there. I can see where it would be frustrating for things not to be open during convenient hours.

The majority of Cypriots work longer hours. The bank workers are not in that majority!!!!
