Inaccurate report on Cyprus by the BBC: very disappointed

Postby Natty » Mon Aug 21, 2006 5:04 am

I'm slightly annoyed. I've just watched a British report on Cyprus, for the BBC, and I was really disappointed in the content of the report. There was no mention of the fact that northern Cyprus is under illegal occupation, or that the TRNC is an illegal state. The Journalist interviewed a Turkish Cypriot member of Government (I believe), who told him, basically, that the 'Cyprus problem' is there, because 'the GC's tried to force the TC's into ghetto's so that they wouldn't exist anymore', something he said, they still believe. However there was no 'counter' interview, to find out the GC's thoughts, he just spoke about how the GC 'nationalists' as he called them, do not accept or recognise the TRNC. He also spoke about the 'property' problems, which were as simple as, in his opinion, 'the buildings used to be owned by GC's, now there mainly owned by TC's'...He also spoke about the anan plan saying, 'the GC's rejected the reunification plan, backed by the EU, although they still got into the EU'! No mention what so ever, as to why the GC's rejected the plan!! As though it was done because the GC's were selfish and didn't want the Island to be reunified! Something I honestly do not believe! Although, one good thing about the report, was that he did speak of the peace and friendships between the TC's and GC's...

Sorry for ranting on, I just thought that is was an inaccurate and unfair report. I was wandering whether anyone else watched it, and what their thoughts on it were?

Peace!! :)

Natty,
Didnt see the interview but what did you expect? The man probably gave his version of events as he saw them. There probably was a lot of truth in what he said and no doubt there are counterarguments and points to be made from the GC point of view but its up to the BBC to balance it with a GC spokeperson. Not his fault if they didnt. At least he acknowledged that friendship can exist between us.
Peace as you say.

The Turkish "campaign" not only is working in the UK/USA, it is actually sponsored by them as it has always been.

CyBC has a program were some British talk about how the UK and Turkey were planing for an invasion and partition of Cyprus in 1964.

Too bad (for you) that the whole world is not just UK/US and that no matter how powerful those countries are and no matter how much propaganda they can push, the illegalities of Turkey in Cyprus can not be legalized.

Hey, I think I was just a little annoyed, because you can't expect people to have a balanced view if their not given a balanced description of events, well as balanced as you can get...although it's true, I was happy when he spoke of the friendships and peace between TC's and GC's...

Peace! :)

Sadly the BBC is a Labour driven institution, which will back Blair and his views to the hilt, and that idiot for some reason is wholly supportive of Turkey to join the EU without resolving the Cyprus issue.

Yet, for some reason, most GC's ressident in the UK I speak to still vote for him and his party of false principles.....
