About the Greek Cypriot language...I think it's more of a greek dialect/accent, kind of like the different accents in England.....okay maybe thats not a great example....

Actually I don't know...I suppose it could be possible to teach 'Greek Cypriot' as a written language...

Can you write something in Greek and Greek Cypriot to illustrate the difference?

It is a bit like English. There are different versions of it like American English, Australian English, Indian English. Sometimes on BBC they put subtitles when Indians speak in English You can not write Greek Cypriot. It is Greek just many words pronounced differently. And we also have some of our own words but most of them are only spoken in villages now.

χέρι = hand. In Greek you pronounce that as "heri" in Greek Cypriot as "sheri". But you can not write the "sh" sound with Greek letters. Cypriot dialect is more rich in sounds than plain Greek.

Here in cyprus we have a different dialect from mainland Greece.Crete,Rhodos have a different dialects as well(their dialects are similar to greek cypriot).

,I am Cypriot..Greek Cypriot.Its funny tho and sad,they invaded our country and now well have to sing a national anthem in their stupid langauge aswell?Erm no i dont think so.

"Ti kaneis?" is "How are you" in Greek

"Inda pou kamnei?" is "How are you" in Cypriot Greek

OR

"Pou einai to maheri?" is "Where is the knife" in Greek, and your answer would be "Ekei"--"over there"

"Pou ein ton masheri?" is "Where is the knife" in Cypriot Greek and your answer would be "jame"--"over there"

There are countless other examples where Cypriot not only differs in pronunciation, but also in vocabulary.

Go up to a Greek and start speaking Cypriot. I have a GREAT time with that.

Anywho... to write it they would have to start putting special accent marks and such about the kappa, pi, sigma and taf, and hi.

Also, it's such an awesome cool language. Why would ANYONE not want to learn it?
