Greek Cypriot abducted by Turks

According to police sources, a Greek Cypriot has been kidnapped by four Turks off the coast of Paralimni. He has reportedly been remanded by a court in the quasi-state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on unknown charges until August 16th. The Turks wore orange life vests and drove a high speed boat into Cyprus territorial waters. They abducted Nico Michail, a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot who was swimming near Paralimni at around 8am on August 13th. The United Nations has been alerted to the man's abduction and is working for his release.

The silly t*wts will probably send him back with a ransom note!

Oh yes, I've seen the inside of Famagusta Police Station. Slight misunderstanding with a camera and Varosha!

Story is updated on www.reportfromcyprus.com home page - he was released.

We got some criticism for using the word abducted, but legally speaking, the turkish authorities who carried out this operation don't have recognised jurisdiction over Cyprus.

If we used the word arrested, that would imply that their authority is legally recognised, and as far as I know, there's still no solution to the legal state of affairs of the TRNC.

The only recognised legal police authority in Cyprus is the Republic of Cyprus police force.

By the way, that last post was NOT a nationalist statement, so please think before reacting, anyone who disagrees :)
