The right word is "abducted". When you are swimming and someone is coming and takes you by force this is an "abduction". The so called police asked 70pounds to release him, kinda a randsom?

He was swimming 300 meters into Turkish waters. illegally. Next time I suggest he crosses the border legally to enjoy our beautiful beaches and warm hospitality.

Sorry, how stupid of me. TRNC waters of course. Please do not misinterprate my previous message. This man will have to enter TRNC by legal means for the present moment. I pray this will one day change and we will be integrated, reunited to enjoy every centimeter of the island as we wish and as Cypriots.

A simple warning would have sufficed here, don't you think? But, no, this is typical turkish behaviour, and we are trying for a deal with these people. Get real, whatever is agreed will never last, once a barbarian, always a barbarian. And for your information, turkey dosn't own any wayters in cyprus, it just abducted them too !!!

Pantheman, I agree with you. A simple warning would have sufficed and would have been good PR. In fact just letting him alone to enjoy his swim would have been the decent thing to do. Unfortunately we do not score high when it comes to good PR.

I can assure you the TC's in general would agree with you. But having said this don't you think the authorities in the south would have done the same? The architect scenario is a classic example of this.

I should have said TRNC waters. Genuine mistake.

TRNC is not a legal entity. There is such thing as turkish or trnc waters. Ask any international organisation.

According to police sources, a Greek Cypriot has been kidnapped by four Turks off the coast of Paralimni. He has reportedly been remanded by a court in the quasi-state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on unknown charges until August 16th. The Turks wore orange life vests and drove a high speed boat into Cyprus territorial waters. They abducted Nico Michail, a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot who was swimming near Paralimni at around 8am on August 13th. The United Nations has been alerted to the man's abduction and is working for his release.
