Restrictions at Larnaca and Pahos for flights to UK

Restrictions at Larnaca and Pahos for flights to UK

Postby G.Man » Mon Aug 14, 2006 9:14 am

My family fly back to heathrow today, and I have been told that flights to UK have hand luggage restrictions

ie. No laptops, Mobile Phones, Ipods etc in hand luggage

If this is correct, What is the liability on the carrier to ensure items such as laptops are not damaged? All my children have their laptops with them, and I wouldnt want to see them damaged by the usual shoddy baggage handling at Larnaca/Heathrow..

Airlines do not cover IT equipment in the hold. On the other hand the travel insurers are expecting the Airlines to cover. So we may see some sad cases in the near future.

Yes this is my concern...

Its not like we have a choice, as they are going home after the event, and the restrictions are only supposed to apply to flights FROM heathrow/UK

Grrrr

You should definitely check with the airline you're flying. The UK downgraded the threat to severe, not critical, so now you're allowed one piece of hand luggage but no liquids or gels.

The following link is intended for passangers flying from the UK, but it could be that flights to the UK are also subject to the same restrictions:

I would be surprised if this was the case but don't rule it out.

Cyprus Airways told me today: trips to Heathrow - people are allowed only one small bag. Usual, more generous, restrictions apply on other flights.

I was told by Cyprus Airways just now that we can take a laptop onboard, but it will be x-rayed as will everything. Also we can take a small bag with essential items only on board. (no need for it to be clear plastic).

What I want to know is why dont they just have these extreme security measures all the time. It would make me feel much safer. I'd rather have no book to read than the alternative!
