I lived in Larnaca for 5years and I loved it compared to the other cities
when I first came on holidays I stayed with my aunt in Liamssol and when I moved over I stayed in Larnaca but slowly got to love it the most!
its much smaller and friendlier, lots more expats and generally a nice feeling about it
the negative side is maybe a little too small LOL everyone is in your business!

Downside is the winter, where there really isn't much to do. Overall though, like Anastasia, its my favourite town in Cyprus. There is more of a relaxed feeling here, you don't have the urge to look over your shoulder every few minutes when you are walking down the road, I find people in Larnaca are friendlier and more helpful than in other towns (maybe its just people I have spoken to only, I don't know). If you want a crazy night out, you are only a 30minute drive from Ayia Napa. If you want to go to Nicosia, again, its only a 30 minute drive. I'm enjoying it here and hopefully you will too :)

Where in Larnaca will you be staying?

limassol is the equilibrium

not the biggest city, but not the smallest either.

not a shit load of tourists like paphos or protaras, but not dead like larnaca or nicosia either

beaches not flocked by young tourists (or families, even worse) like paphos/protaras, but there's a balanced number of youngsters, locals, tourists, families. larnacas' are full of locals. nicosia doesnt have beaches so f-it, hehe.

limassol is not the cheapest city, but not the most expensive either. comes second to larnaca i think.

overall, its mild.

go for it

oh, i forgot to mention that its in the middle of everything. (like nicosia)
40 minutes tops take you to paphos, nicosia and larnaca. add another 15 and you're in protaras/ayia napa

Thats not far from where I'm living. I live around 2km from Orphanides.

I'll give you this tip Jazzy, you have to try this. You will NOT regret it. Go to Hobos in the Finigoudes for a desert (waffles in particular). They are pretty generous with their helpings there!

I gotta agree, Larnaca in the winter is absolutely dead.

Like a ghost town.

But other than that its the least pretencious town and is a 'what you see is what you get' type town. I have a house in Drosia and a flat on the beach on Dekelia road and I wouldn't change them for anything.

I agree with souroul. Limassol has the best balance. Nicosia is better for work but it has no beach. Paphos or Protaras/Ayia Napa are good for vacations but not to live permanently. Larnaca has a bit of everything also but much less than Limassol. :P
