I would like to know if August the 14th is an official holiday in Cyprus.

Hey Bannerman, do you mean August 15th? I believe on that day (the 15th) it is...although I'm not too sure..

Not listed in my diary as a bank holiday. Just the 15th.

in cyprus, when there is an official holiday, the preceding day and the next day are also holidays.
so expect everything to be closed on 14th 15th and 16th.

yes that tallies with what I read on shop doors on saturday..

It does amaze me the cyprus retail work ethic... never known any country where the shops would rather be closed than open making money.. hehe the half day closing on a saturday is incredible, but I understand why, as many want to be home with their families early before the family day on sunday...

I still don't understand what the hell Wednesdays are all about. Why close half day on a wednesday? Is it a dry run, a dress rehearsel for a Saturday??

In every other country a half day closing is given because saturday is a worked day..

I guess here its given as saturday is half worked...
