The sexual blueprint you describe, Kikapu, gives men the biological imperative to reproduce and 'spread his seed'.

This implies that the continuation of the human race is the most important aspect of sexual relations, and overrides all other considerations; trust, love and so on.

I always find this argument disingenuous because if it's the most important thing, then why would men use contraception during one night stands or whilst cheating? Something the blueprint left out?

Why do committed relations exist at all, if the male's sexual blueprint is so dominating and so all-powerful?

The wierd part of all of this is that I agree with all of you, I agree that men shouldn't cheat but I don't think the women really know what a man feels when he gets the urge, it really is an animalistic overpowerment. Women will always call it an excuse but it's not, it's real. I avoid it by not putting myself in front of temptation and hence I remain faithful but there is no denying a serious want.

I cant say if it's different for a woman or not or if its the same but women are just stronger as I have never been a woman much in the same way all you women can't go saying that men cheat because they are stupid and weak. Neither side knows what the other is going through.

You will laugh but there have been points in my life where I have felt like the victim of my desires.

There's no denying we are all, men and women, subject to hormonal overload sometimes.

Testosterone is produced daily, for example, and definitely has a dominating role in a man's psychological makeup. Progesterone and estrogen are produced in different amounts over a woman's monthly cycle, perhaps that's why it often seems that women are more in control of their desires.

Still, I just can't agree that our hormones override all other things in life, we couldn't go to work, function socially, and just generally do other things if they did.

   It's true I tell you, I have no control over it.

Seriously though, it's like me saying that women getting angry and moody whilst on their period is 'just an excuse'!!! Its clearly a result of hormones, its involuntary, it cannot be helped and just like in a mans case it can often be made worse if you try to prevent it.

My point is that it can be helped. If someone's behaviour, prompted by hormones, has a bad effect on their lives, they have to help themselves. It's no excuse if a woman is PMS-ing and goes and shoots someone or cheats on her husband. Would you accept that as an excuse?

I wouldn't.

Never heard of diminished responsibility? there are hundreds of cases where charges are dropped or reduced against a female who was suffering PMS at the time. I'm not saying its an excuse but it is a factor that must be considered, a survey was done in Australia's prisons last year and they found that 62% of female inmates that commited 'violent crime' had done so in PMS. Coincidence?

The fact that they're in prison speaks for itself.

It's also ignorance and a lack of clear medical information and support. There's a lot that can be done for severe cases of hormonal imbalance.

I feel sorry for them, god knows, but the harm they do to themselves and others isn't justified.

It's such a shame that the word 'feminist' has such negative connotations. Now all people think when they hear the word is that it's all about hairy armpitted bra burning men hating lesbians.
