Poor Linda Orams........some transcripts from the hearings

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Jim » Fri Aug 18, 2006 9:05 am

Mr Viewpoint
Justice is blind; (see the statue above the Old Baily) whether it opens a can of worm or not is not the point, it's the justice that matters. I would think that the law would have a different response for Cypriots of Turkish decent living on Cypriots of Greek decents' property as the legal arguments would be quite different. Many of these Expats took a gamble on cheap property in the North; if they weren't aware of the risk they must either be very naive or stupid. Living in Paphos I see many Cypriots of Turkish decent who live here and I must say that they are treated with the same courtesy by the their fellow Cypriots as I am when in shops and restaurants; as you say there are always two sides to the story.

I dont know the numbers but not very many TC's remained in the South after 74. Probably about as many that stayed in the north.
When is Judgement expected in the Orams case?

Very good point Jim. All Cypriots are one and Cyprus is for one and all.

50,000 out of 120,000 stayed. 90% of them women, elderly, and children who were afraid to travel through the GC controlled area and go to the occupied. Their adult males were all "fighters" helping their brothers from Turkey against us in 1974 hence they all hide in the occupied. So we actually had a huge separation of families. All these people moved to the occupied with UN escort after we signed the 3rd Vienna agreement in 1975.

Orams win their case!

Postby Svetlana » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:20 am

Forgive me, but I cannot provide a translation, but this piece is from the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, announcing that the Oram's appeal has been successful. Interestingly, as you will see at the bottom of my posting, the Findings will not be announced until the Hearing later today:

Cherie, Orams davasını kazandı (CHERIE, WON ORAM'S CASE)

Faruk ZABCI / LONDRA
