Where are all the Brits?

Postby tinamassaad » Sat Aug 12, 2006 7:51 pm

Hi,

Can you tell me where all the Brits hang out in Limassol? I'm talking about families with kids. We have been here a month and only met pensioners, though they are all wonderful, of course! It's just that our 10 and 11 year old sons are missing their English friends and are finding the local boys hard work to make friends with. I am sure things will improve once they start school.

The average age of Brits in Limassol is 83; however in Paphos it is 93, so count your Blessings :-)

Hi Lana,

You know what they say:

"Limassol for the continent, Paphos for the incontinent" :)

But seriously, there are many younger Brits in Limassol. The English language schools are full of their children.

Cheers,

I see them everywhere and I don't think they are all tourists! Old people go to Paphos ;)

I see you only recently joined the Forum - perhaps you've only recently moved to Limassol? Many Brits still go back to UK when the schools break up or take their own holidays in August. In September by the schools you will meet them or on Sundays at both the Catholic and Anglican Churches where they have sunday schools (under different names sometimes). The children will make friends quickly with all nationalities especially through their own interests - i.e. sports clubs, youth groups and after school activities.
Don't forget you will need friends as well so look out for the groups which meet from September onwards. You will find plenty of younger families about.

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, we have only been here a month, (came earlier than planned after two years in Lebanon!!) and I guess most families are in the UK right now enjoying the rain. We are going ourselves tomorrow.
It would be useful to know where exactly these places are. What/where is Chesters? (or are you just joshin with me Sotos?) I haven't noticed it. What sports activities and clubs are there for kids and where are they?
I am going on the assumption that once the boys make friends, I will meet their parents and make friends of my own. I am not so worried what nationality my friends are, (I am British, my husband is Lebanese) but I know British friends will make the boys feel more at home.

Chesters is a bar opposite Hawaii Grand where they put Tabasco instead of Brandy Sour Drops and make a drink undrinkable! Happened to me three successive drinks - I left and went to Nelsons. Most of the English I saw at Chesters were tourists. Most of the international schools have clubs attached to them or clubs using their premises such as Cubs, and sports activities. There are a couple of groups who put on shows and these you should see advertised in the local papers. September is nearly here and you will quickly settle. To get to know more of the area you could join as a family to one of the rambling clubs.
