Turkish Cypriots are no more than a minority

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Your right, enough of my anologies, its just difficult talking and dealing with people that overlook commonsense. My bad for wasting energy on this site to the ones who are partition-minded.

I see what you are saying Issy. We can do our bit to assist you. We need to send the right signals to the Turkish Cypriots, but unfortunately we haven't been doing so over the last three or so years. Have you ever wondered why?

The right signals that we should be sending to our brothers is that they are our NEXT OF and kin and that our Cyprus is theirs too , our flag is their flag and anthems dont really matter. My Cypriot compatriots agree deep down , that they as well as us , have to make some trivial sacrifices and meet us, and we them , half way , split the difference as we say in business.
We must also tell them that a divided Cyprus will never be a solution , and that we will expend all our energy to ensure that our beloved island is there for us all to enjoy. Cyprus is all Cypriots motherland, our common denominator , our common unity.

On this enosis thing, the Cyprus today isn't the Cyprus of 100 years ago. Cyrpus, as a country had never been 'independant', even in Ancient times, when it was split in to City states, each having connections of their own, for eg, I believe that the City state of Salamis was closely connected to Athens. Now as I have said before, I can understand why people wanted enosis, and I do not believe that it was for 'sinister' reasons like some people believe. Again Cyprus had never been independant, Modern Greece was 'getting rid' of the Ottomans and slowly each province and Island joined (over many years) or were ceded, some by Great Britian (the one's that weren't so strategicaly important) to Greece. The call for enosis completely coincided with emergence of Modern Greece. In fact, on quite a few occasions the British 'flirted' with the idea of enosis....I do not beleive that the GC's wanted inosis because they wanted an ethnically Greek only state, enosis would have joined all Cypriots to Greece...evidently something that the Turkish Cypriots did not want, something that I can completely understand..Now I can't speak for all Cypriots their probably were a few GC chauvanistic facists who did want an ethnically Greek state, but that is not what the majority wanted...plus doesn't every country have these narrow minded 'idiots'? And also, Cyprus wasn't the only Island, region, that had (an Important) ethnic Turkish minority. Yet these places still became modern Greece. I know I'm making it sound like I want enosis, but I don't, I really don't, and neither do any other GC's I know, so I think that if the GC's were aloud to choose between enosis and an independant state, they would choose an independant state, a state that they are very protective over. After the people were granted independance, they realised that, yes Cyprus could be independant, they could hold on to their Cypriot identity as well as their Greek identity (For example, the regional dialects of Greece aren't really spoken by the young anymore, however the regional dialect of Cyprus is still kept alive), etc. For most GC's, Cyprus isn't just a country with ethnic Greeks in it, it is a country made up of many cultures and traditions, if anybody attempts to say that the Turkish culture did not influence the GC and Greek culture, then they are living in a dream world, and the other way around, the Greek culture also influenced the Turkish culture. I think that people should look back at the History of Cyprus with a more open mind, and try and truly understand what happened, instead of the classic (and may I add) wrong view that "Oh well evidently GC's and TC's just can't live together"...Both the communities were victims...We need to try and rebuild trust, because there is definately something to build on, history shows us that, and meet somewhere in the middle...Cyprus could be such a Great country if we come together.....We need a fair and just solution for all Cypriots, and I believe (and hope) that one day that will happen, the question is when?? I hope in my lifetime!!

Peace!! :)

In alll this i see the TC want specail rights above all others in recognition, the solution is to have everyone on the island as one citizen'Cypriot' everyone will have equal rights, i think these days are different now where the Gc are over the whole arguemement and want to roam freely around the island just as before, and im sure noone or government will deny them their rights just like all the other foreigners who came to Cyprus, Bulgaria, Russia, Armenians, they all live here with equal righs just as any other citizen so im sure the TC can to as they are already allowed to enter Cyprus freely with out any hassles.

I think its more he Turks who are brainwashing the TC into thinking we can be trusted, thats why if a proper solution is found Turkey should not be in the picture anymore, because at the moment they are making things difficult for their own needs strategically.

I repeat what I said earlier. If enosis was a viable and a feasible option, the vast majority of Greek Cypriots would opt for it. Let us not fool ourselves.

As usual you are saying nonsense with the only purpose of helping the partitionists of achieving their aim. Today the great majority of GCs would immediately reject enosis even if this was offered to them. This is a fact.

The enosis cause was abandoned in the 60s indeed because it was not feasible. This is why I always say that for TCs to abandon partition we should make such thing to them and to Turkey itself so costly that would make maintaining the illegalities infeasible.
We (human beings) are greedy by nature. We will try to get as much as we can and we will stop only were taking more is not possible. This is unfortunate but true.

There are two ways that this greediness can be limited:
1) The one who is strong takes it all and therefore limits what the weak can take. This guarantees a never ending antagonism and struggle between the two communities that will garantee that the circle of blood will never end. A new war will brake out with every shift in the balance of power, and when there is no war a "cold war" will go on between the two sides making it impossible for Cyprus to progress. Thats a hell I don't want me or my children to live in.

2) The greediness of both sides to be limited by universally accepted principles like the ones of democracy, human rights, the EU acquis etc, that will create equal Cypriot citizens instead of two conflicting groups. This way each Cypriot will get what proportionally belongs to him and this would limit the greediness of everybody simultaneously without having one gaining on the loss of another. This is the only way to create a truly one Cypriot nation and a long lasting peace.

Just like GCs now got used to independence and do not want enosis anymore, if TCs are also forced to accept the compromise made in 1960 for one independent country then after some time they will get used of it as well and they will finally abandon their extremist maximalistic aims. In the end the TCs will gain so much from being citizens of a democratic EU country that will look in the past and wonder why the hell they wasted 32 years of being a 3rd world puppet state of Turkey.

I completely agree!! Times have changed! Again, I have never heard any GC talk about enosis, amongst the majority (I can't speak for all GC's) I truly beleive that the idea is dead!

Peace :)

Who adminsiters your human rights and democracy any one specific ethnic group? Is there a heavy split like 80% 20% in ethnic backrounds? Did any of the ethnic groups conquer Australia and live there for 300 years? Did you choose under your own freewill to give live in Australia under their laws or were you forced to do so? You are comparing apples with pears. I can agree that all individual citizens should be treated the same but how do we share the country? who runs it? who makes the decisions? and how do we ensure everyones rights are not abused?
