This discussion is not about nationality, but sociology and lifestyle habits.

Speaking of drinking - 45 people were arrested for drink driving in 72 hours on the island, so as negative as it is that 16-year-olds get drunk in the UK, there is probably just as big a problem proportionally speaking here.

Just because we are Cypriots doesn't mean we don't have social problems or issues, and the more blind we are to them, the worse they'll become.

16yr old having sex, well yes, that is not uncommon.. but who wants to marry a virgin with no clue about sex?

I think affairs may be more common in england as we dont have cabaret there...

Prostitution from Bazouki, Cabaret, Pub's etc in cyprus seems to be a major industry, and as long as the women and others tolerate it, it will continue to claim more of their husbands... If the availability of easy sex with a hot eastern european is taken away, then maybe you will hear less stories about the men running off with these girls?

But surely that is holiday behaviour you've witnessed. We're all a little more relaxed about things in general when on holiday so you can expect to see that to some extent. Back at home in the UK you wouldn't see that so often. Although, the 16 yr old having sex you would definitely encounter. We have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe.

I spoke to a doctor friend of mine and he told me the Cyprus wives have a high rate of STD's, and in the past he used to lie to them about what they had, but said that now they were a bit more clued up. Thats why its a selfish act to go putting it out and about, the damage it does to their families.
