The Big Sell Out

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Wed Aug 09, 2006 4:32 pm

If you don't want to talk about history, then don't. I never bring it up myself. Don't bring it up, and I will not bring it up either. It is as relevant as everything else on our common history on this island. In fact if those events didn't happen we would not have any Cyprus Problem today.

Here is your answers again. If you made a qucik search you would find them very easily.

From what i understand they now have the ability to get restitution from the property commission in the north.

The "property commission" in occupied Cyprus is an illegal entity. They can not take any decisions that have any legal importance.

If they did not stay in Cyprus when Turkey came over they have no claim, did you know that?

In fact it is the opposite. If a TC was living abroad during the invasion then he can return to his property now, even before Turkey and TCs ending the illegal occupation and allowing the GC refugees to return to their own homes.

Legal enough for the ECHR but not for my Greek neighbours. Typical.

Then the same can be said about 1963. No? I was alive in 63, it has importance for me.

On the other hand you're arguing about 1570. Who gives a shit about 1570.

Can you tell me when the ECHR said that committee was legal mrfromng? (your dream doesn't count)

I give a shit. Because thats when everything started. 1963 was just another date in the chain of events. And in the 99% of that chain of events starting from 1570 and until August 9th 2006, Turks are the ones who insist on crimes, not us.

Maybe the word "legal" is inappropriate, however it clearly approved it.

the court should make them tare the house down or hand over their own house in the UK. that should solve a lot of issues, except for people that sell everything they own and move to the north. well if they want to put their selves in that position then ow well

Piratis

It was first claimed that 160, 000 were rmade homelss. This figure is now 200, 000

It was claimed 2000 gc lost their lives during Turkish intervention, The next figure we got was 4,000. 2,000 was the figure claimed as a result of gc fighting gc in the coup. The next figure we were given was 4,000 as a result of the intervention, which is 2,000 as a result of the coup plus 2,000 as a result of the intervention.

As for the ottomans, well you can cite any fiGure you wish, none of us were there at the tim, execpt you and you sources. i wasn't there so i wont dispute any figure at all.

So its settled then is it 2,000 ooops i mean 4,000 died when the turks came, and 200, 000 lost their homes. ok fine.

Now tell us, if you had to have been in Cyprus pre 74 to claim your south cyprus land back , then only people over the age of forty (granted that they were two years old in 1974) can now claim it. So anyone being over the age of thirty (REASONABLE AGE FOR LAND OWNER) in 1974 can now claim their land back. So does the govt seriously think that a seventy year old is now going to bother with it. If they dont claim it who does it belong to? any decendant not in Cyprus pre 1974 can not claim it. Therefore anyone under the age of forty two, (about 50% of any community) can not claim their parents' land?

Of course now that figure will increase year by year until no tc can claim
their land.

Nice one Piratis, another greek theatrical masterpeice.

Bravo encore more.......

And you expect tcs to put themselves back under the gc democratic system?

you got a long long wait.

I think the figures for refugees are clear, although as usual these are always estimates so cannot be perfect. The number of refugees from 1974 was in the region of 160,000. The figure of 200,000 is the number of refugees that exist now due to population expansion. So, if the 160,000 had not been displaced they would now be at least 200,000 from those areas.
As for the casualties from 1974, I believe that 6,000 is the total figure quoted by the government. How, when where and who exactly these 6,000 were and were killed can only be estimated. If you ask Turkey the only people killed by her intervention were terrorists, this is clearly incorrect, but then again if you ask the RoC very few were killed in the coup, again debatable.
Anyway, in my opinion mulling over figures is not going to Cyprus problem. The only place numbers should be involved is in coming up with fair and workable political settlement
