It seems a but cruel... like they are trying to start something. A kind of "in your face" thing... a reminder to every refugee of what they did to them.

This is not a sign of our national pride or our struggle. It's only purpose is to annoy the GCs. I condemn this mentality.

Your privilidge....but it doesnt change a thing until we find a solution.

I understand that we cannot remove troops until a solution, because our security is important. I can to a degree understand that we cannot return Varosha before a solution. But why can't we remove something that crearly is designed to annoy the very people that we are trying to make peace with? Why do we need to be pricks until we find a solution?

Sadik, the impression that the GCs had all along, and still have, is that based on the way your side interprets a solution (and as it was reflected in the TC state's constitution under the Annan plan,) not only you had or have no intention of ever remove that flag from the mountain after a solution, but in fact that your aim was to retain the particular flag as the flag of the "TC constituent state," after a solution. Are you now saying that this was not the case, but that it was /is a GC misconception?

Kifeas, I'm talking specifically about the flag on the mountain, which I find offensive due to its purpose, location, size, etc... I'm not discussing what the flag of the TC state should be in case of a solution, though I have my preferences on this subject as well. In any case, whatever the flag will be, it should not be used specifically to offend people.

What about the massive effigy of a soldier on the hills over Kerinya and the big statue in the middle of Famagusta depicting soldiers rescuing children? These are just as much propaganda as the hillside flag.

Andry_c, Pyrpolizer,

In fairness I've never seen this wall, I only heard about it. If indeed it does exist I would like for somebody to tell me where it is located for me to visit and see it for myself.

If it does exist and its there for all, including your tourists and the evacuees from Lebanon to see then it is shameful.

You will now ask me "what about the flags on the mountain face". I will be coming over mid September and will make it a priority to talk to my friend, the newly elected mayor of Nicosia about them and will ask him to do all he can to have them removed.

btw, Cemal (our new mayor)is a cool dude and has the best intentions for Nicosia and Cyprus as a whole. The GC's should believe and trust him.

i seen pictures of your friend in the press meeting his Greek Cypriot counterpart from south Nicosia.

It was reported as saying that they discussed many things including sewage, water works which they are going to split the costs for between both i sides ( it was reported that the funding from the north originated from the EU grant made to the TC side), the demilitarisation of Nicosia and wanted to show the rest of Cyprus that it could be done.

A very positive step in the the right direction that within a week of being elected Cemal wanted to meet his "opposite" number in the "South". Just a pity that more senior politicians weren't so brave.

Good Luck to him.
