I have the primetel package & am less than satisfied.

The TV is "glitchy" & the internet service has somehow slowed down after 2 weeks.

The service dept is useless as well.

So basically, think twice before signing up for 12 months

From the website they say "Using the fastest Internet speeds as well as ADSL2+ technology, you can now avoid all the typical problems of a dial-up connection". Then they say a 1.5Mbps link will be £25 a month. Erm isn't that old ADSL technology? Unless they are really throttling back on proper ADSL2 (upto about 23Mbps isn't it?). I'm planning on setting up an internet business in Cyprus really soon, and 1.5Mbps will just about do, but in the UK we are now getting 2Mbps for nothing (if have Sky already for example). My 10Mbps on my NTL cable for £25GBP a month and that is considered a bit much nowadays.

Does anyone know if they are planning on some proper speed ups anytime soon? I mean it looks like you can't even buy a faster speed, even if you wanted to.

Cheers

Thats the reason I didn't get it. I don't like long term commitments with such companies. I prefer to pay per month and then switch to something else whenever I want.

You can, but not as a home user. You have to get a business kind of deal and it will be a LOT more expensive.

Guys please note that The PrimeTV is still under construction!
I got the service from the beginning and believe me the TV was much more terrible than it's now! Menus was very slow! Settop box was freezing 5 times a day etc. etc. But It is a Primetel base! the software was designed/made by Primetel stuff and they are releasing new versions of TV base once a month ( new features, fixed bugs, NEW BUGS:) ) you know. Don't worry it's a matter of time.

Regarding the internet! previusly the speed was UNLIMITED I remember times that speed on a bittorent client was 1015KB/SEC !!! A megabyte per second!!!

But now because the customers are too many Primetel started the standart procedure. sneezing7 how much speed you got in your contract?? 300K go to some speedtest site and test it! and you'll get what you paid for!

This is not a good policy to launch a new service.... I guess it is better to sell it to people when it is bug and trouble free. Paid subscribers cannot be beta testers to any platform..... What is even worse, is that they bind these "beta tester customers" with a 12 month contract!!!

A megabyte per second!!!
Hmmm, reckon thats about 8mbits, as I get about 1.25 megabytes a second on a 10mbit line in the UK. At 8mbits that puts it at about the limit of the original ADSL. Basically ADSL+2 is just a name they have made up for ADSL with a package deal then, and not actually ADSL2.

Personally I think it is a massive shame there is not more competition. From what I can see Cynet (or whatever the government one is called) owns the infastructure and everyone has to use their network. Much like if only BT controlled everything in the UK. Since things opened up in the UK (plus Cable modems are very nice) things have sped up quite a bit with the prices dropping like a stone. Everyone at 8mbits (limit of ADSL) would be happy, and I for one wouldn't complain. Hopefully they will announce such speeds (or at least 4mbit) at a half reasonable price (say about £40).

Cannot find anything for businesses more than 1.5mbits. Which is what I'll be looking at. Really can't do an online business on practically dial up speeds. If you have a link for increased speeds then please post. Personally I'll probably be happy at 1.5mbits (although 10mbits has made be greedy...) but for what I want to do it will only be just about adequate. Out of interest, what are the upload speeds like (esp. at 1.5mbits)? This will be quite important to me as I will be updating a lot of content every month on my planned website, and even my 10mbit line here can suck quite a bit (think I am on 500k upload at the minute - ironically the same download speed as my first ever home broadband connection years ago) when I need to upload a lot of information.

Cheers
