Where is the best beach in Cyprus (south only please)

We like a more private and less busy beach - no kids, no chavs, just peace and quiet and the noise of the waves.

Does this place exist in Cyprus?

Hi Simon

Yes, there are several deserted beaches - you need a 4-wheel drive to reach them. But if told you where any of them were, they wouldn't stay deserted for very long :)

Some are quite easy to find by driving down the tracks (rather than the tarred roads) leading down towards the sea.

Cheers,

Hi Nigel

I haven't seen you on here for some time now, have you been doing more photo shoots and promotional work for Sky TV :D

Would a Ford KA be able to find these places!?!?!?

4 x 4's are expensive to hire for two weeks. Where are these little hide-aways? We are staying in Paphos but pretty keen to drive upto Polis and keep going!

Do you know of anyone who hires out 4x4's pretty reasonably priced??

Thanks Nigel

Most hire firms exclude use of cars on unmade roads unless they are 4X4s. If you damage your hired Ka on a track the insurance will not cover you. I have never been to Latchi in the high season but it was much quieter than Coral Bay in May.

Lara in the Akamas is nice, and the beach further down from Lara is usually pretty deserted.

I would second this the beach where the Lara restaurant is (the second one at Lara that you have to drive down a track to) has always been pretty deserted when we have been. You're not allowed to put sunbeds or parasols up because of the turtles eggs.

You can also grab a great lunch at Viklari overlooking Lara Bay for CYP5. Fantastci views and simple but great barbecue lunch.

When I was on holiday in Cyprus in 1994,
my cousin and his wife took me to Kato Pyrgos
(which is about 2 hours drive from Nicosia).
We went to a beach there alongside the quiet, narrow road,
and it was great! We were the only people swimming
there, and the water was crystal clear and clean.
The beach surface consisted of smooth, tiny pebbles outside
of the water and [I think] sand inside the water.
What's more, there was a fantastic little restaurant
across the road with the freshest fish I've
ever tasted!
