Are there any CYPRIOTS here?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Are there any CYPRIOTS here?

Postby George_o » Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:21 pm

Hello all!

Wherever I go I see people arguing about the same old things over and over. Almost all discussions are about things of the past. If the future is mentioned it is usually for a threat!

And I am asking: What is the point? Aren't you tired yet?

I would therefore like to propose a better, in my opinion, approach. You can reject it, you have the right to, but at least I will not feel guilty for not saying it.

I propose to make August a month were ONLY the future is discussed and were the discussions are made ONLY by the true CYPRIOTS. And true Cypriots, always in my opinion, are those that believe in one Cyprus and one Cypriot people. Those that don't judge their compatriots based on language or religion. Those that believe that there is just "us", the CYPRIOTS, not "us VS them".

The partitionists, the enosists, the racists and the extremists maybe could take August off. This would not limit their freedom of speech in any way as their position is already well documented in the 95000 posts of this forum and elsewhere. But if we finally manage to have some discussions about the future of Cyprus for the benefit of all Cypriots then who knows, maybe something new and useful will come out.

What do you think?

No harm in trying Viewpoint. Lets see if members in favour of peace in Cyprus will make the effort to post for the future of the island or will it be a fiasco and will end up with discussions going back to 1000 years BC or the Ottoman days.

Let me go first. The Cyprus of the future will be a federation, bizonal and bicommunal, where the two communities will be politically equal.

Nothing wrong with this arrangement. That's a future we could all enjoy. Good post Bananiot.

Why?

george_o, just a pointer: Bananiot, mrfromng and viewpoint do not believe in one Cypriot people and that all Cypriots should be one without discriminations amongst them based on their language and religion. They believe in the exact opposite. In a few words they are partitionists, the people that no constructive discussion about the future can be made with, since all they care is about how to use the power of Turkey along with lame excuses from the past to take away the human, legal and democratic rights of Cypriots.

Total rubbish, you really need to get a grip on things and change the record coming to terms with reality. We have all changed over the past 46 years and the reponse to this thread actually shows that you are in the minority. Just saying you want to be Cypriot and human righst and democracy for all doesnt change a thing actions speak louder than words. How do you suggest we get to where you wanna go taking into account both sides concerns and fears thats the important question. We have unsucessful for 43 years, and this failure is not just one sided you to have accept that your side has many short falls when it comes to resolving the Cyprus issue. Does it really suit them to share when they have all the international recognition and benefits that go with it to themselves.
The day you realize that if Cyprus ever unites it will be an equal partnership between our communities is they day you can free yourself of the shackles of tunnelled vision. There are many roads that will take you to the same destination we just have to find the one that suits us best.

The way I see it, there are only two solutions. None of which will apply unfortunately in the near future due to the stupidity of our Goverments.

1- Build a 50 foot high wall and separate Cyprus once and for all. GC dont see TC, TC dont see GC, pretend that the other side doesnt exist and live happily(?) ever after. No connection, no communication, no nothing. Cruel but maybe efficient.

2- GC's and TC's throw their Goverments out to sea and tear down the buffer zone, send the UN back were they came from and unite as ONE. Turkish goverment and GCypriot goverment take a holiday and let the Cypriot people decide for their own fate. We used to be happy together before whatever happened according to the olders, yes? Who says we cant be now?

IMHO a nation who needs "others" to solve its problems is worthy of whatever it gets! Cruel but TRUE!

When they said they would open the roadblocks and we could go visit the occupied areas I was a soldier. I was on watch guarding the "borders" and I could see Turks and TC's passing by the road next to the army camp on the GC side and I was wondering what the hell I was guarding....

Sorry for the outburst but sometimes I feel like "they" are making fun of us and taking advantage of us right before our eyes...
