post and internet orders

Postby jazzy1 » Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:56 pm

Hi Guys

Quick question.

Whats the mail syterm like in Cyprus.
In the UK there is a 1st class service where mail gets to you most of the time the next working day.
Or
2nd class which gets there in about 3 days.
You can also send things recorded delivery where the letter or item must be signed for at the address it is sent to, if no one is in to recieve the package it goes back to the nearset post office to your home and you must go to collect it.

The other thing is, when you order over the internet from another country , DVDs Books or bigger items that wont fit through the letter box, how does this work. Does it take forever to get to you, throgh customs etc.

Hope this makes sense xx

If the shop that you ordering from is reliable then it comes fast. My orders from the USA (Amazon and bhphotovideo) come in about 10 days from the time I order with the least expensive shipping option. :p

The mail is so bad in my village I have it sent to friends in the next village. Also mail is treated with such disrecard here, I saw a pile outside a villa the other day, that could easily have been put into the letter box on the gate!! Our bills are so late we get cut off notices. Our mail lady said she doesn't get paid enough to deliver it!! She has two other jobs , and is rarely home so you can pick it up there. A parcel from my mum took 3 months to arrive. Out friends village is much better. A lot of people opt for the option of a PO Box and pick there mail up from there.

For books you pay nothing. For things from EU you pay nothing. For other things from the USA you usually pay 15% VAT and sometimes some duty which depends on the product. I got a camcorder some time ago from USA and I paid 15% VAT but no duty.
