Nothing has changed, here in paphos its as if nothing has happened, even though the Lebanon is not far away you cant hear any bombing and no one seems to feel there is any danger here. But people who live elsewhere may imagine something may happen so of course it will affect tourism to some extent, but in reallity its safe to come here.

Flew to the UK via Larnaca on Thursday and back yesterday; pretty busy at the airport with some delays but they are coping well.

Have booked a Middle East holiday and have no concerns at all.

I think events will soon come to an end there. I doubt it tourism will be affected.

CYPRUS IS EXPENSIVE

Postby lysi » Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:14 pm

Cyprus is getting a reputation for being an EXPENSIVE rip-off tourist destination now.
Also why does the stupid cypriot government allow people to fly to LARNACA airport & then go across to the occupied areas to have there holidays & spend there money ?
As for the refugees from lebanon , im sure the hotel owners can screw money from them by putting up there prices.

ps, hi fatboy, good to hear from you again

tourist agents say that there have been no cancellations, and bookings keep coming.
we have 250 lebanese families staying at out hotels right now (long term), and around 800 rooms are exchanged between evacuees daily.

You are right about the expensive rip off tourist destination, but its not just the tourist's who are getting ripped off! My neighbours son who is doing his national service had a meal in Zygi at the week-end with two other young soldiers, fish meze two beers a coke and bottled water = £92 yes £92! All the boys were in uniform and obviously not tourists. When they complained about the price thinking that there had been a mistake the restaurant owner accused them of threatening the restaurant staff saying that he was going to call the military police.

Rotate: My I suggest that they should have done what most sensible people do and checked the Menu first! But thank you, we live in the Limassol district, Zygi is about 30kms away from us and we had planned to go there for a meal on a Sunday in the near future but, not now!

Im more worried about the ecological catastrophe that will affect us directly.
The oil spills in the mediterranean and the usage of phosphoric bombs by the Israel army.
