Would you do this for peace in Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Would you do this for peace in Cyprus?

Hypothetically speaking. The negotiations have advanced to the extent that all the relevant parties are about to sign a historic peace deal.

However you need to give up your fight to repossess a couple of acres of land you have in the north. Everybody else has agreed it is now you only that has to make this decision . You are being offered a reasonable amount of compensation. Would you do this for the love of Cyprus?

mrfromng, if the issue is just for a few tens of thousands of "couple of acres" of land so that the members of the TC community that left from the south and will choose to remain in the north will to have some fair amount of land on which to base their stay there, no one in his right sense will oppose a solution just for his own personal loss, even though one's right to his property is a fundamental human right.

However, if the issue is for several hundreds of thousands of "couple of acres" of land, as the Annan plan case was, then of course this is not a fair and a dignified solution, but a legalisation of the illegal fait accomplices of the Turkish invasion, i.e. the ethnic cleansing and massive property usurping of the GCs. In such a case this kind of solution cannot be accepted, like the Annan plan was not accepted.

Hypothetically speaking as per your scenario: Will the solution "get spoiled" if they give me back my 2 acres? Of course not.
So they should give it back to me.

Anyway I wouln't accept compensation if that would mean my property will be donated to another citizen.
Because that would be discrimination on 2 levels: a) personal b)On ethnic basis.

compensation? are you kidding me?
what's reasonable in your head, is as unreasonable in other heads.

Souroul,

My question was to X. X is the last person that has to agree to give up his claim on 2 acres of land in the north. If X says YES there will be peace forever for all to enjoy. If X says NO it will be many more years of misery.

Would X do the honorable thing for the love of Cyprus?

Is it just 1X or 200.000X all of which happen to be Greek Cypriots? I hope you understand the difference between 1X and 200.000X.

If it was just 1X then there wouldn't be a problem. In fact my family are not refugees but the government had taken away from us land for a very low compensation to house the refugees. That land today would worth 100s of thousands of pounds. But we didn't mind because it was given for a good reason, and not just to satisfy the greediness of some people that are trying to gain on our expense.
